NL: In het voorjaar
van 2021 zal het schip MS Global Mercy in Antwerpen ingericht en afgewerkt
worden tot het grootste private ziekenhuisschip ter wereld. Daarover hebben
Port of Antwerp en hulporganisatie Mercy Ships overeenstemming bereikt. Het
schip zal kosteloos gedurende meer dan 3 maanden in de haven van Antwerpen
kunnen liggen voor deze werken. Tientallen Belgische bedrijven en organisaties
zullen meewerken aan het project. De bouw van de Global Mercy maakt vanaf eind
2021 een verdubbeling van de medische hulp mogelijk in de allerarmste landen
van Afrika.
EN: In the spring of 2021 the ship MS Global
Mercy will be converted and finished into the largest private hospital ship in
the world in Antwerp. Port of Antwerp and the aid organisation Mercy Ships have
reached agreement on this. The vessel will be able to lie in the port of
Antwerp for more than 3 months free of charge for these works. Dozens of
Belgian companies and organisations will participate in the project. The
construction of the Global Mercy will enable a doubling of medical aid in the
poorest countries of Africa from the end of 2021.

ligt momenteel nog in China waar het wordt gebouwd door de China Shipbuilding
Industry Corporation (CSIC) in de scheepswerf van Tianjin Xingang.
Het schip is 174 meter lang, 28 meter breed, telt 12 verdiepingen en is 37.000 BRT
groot.
De komende weken staan nog enkele testvaarten
gepland. Daarna wordt het klaargemaakt voor vertrek naar Antwerpen. In de haven
van Antwerpen zal het grootste ziekenhuisschip ter wereld, met 200 bedden en 6
volwaardige operatiekwartieren, verder ingericht en afgewerkt worden.
Bert van Dijk, voorzitter van Mercy Ships: “De
afwerking van de Global Mercy omvat de installatie van systemen en medische
apparatuur die samen met de 650 vrijwilligers het kloppend hart gaan vormen van
dit uitzonderlijke ziekenhuisschip. Hiermee zullen we dubbel zoveel
mensenlevens kunnen redden als vandaag het geval is, en dat voor de komende 50
jaar”.
EN: The Global Mercy is currently still in China
where it is being built by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC)
at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard. The ship is 174 metres long, 28 metres wide,
has 12 floors and is 37,000 GRT in size.
More sea trials are planned in the coming weeks. The ship will then be
prepared for departure to Antwerp. In the port of Antwerp, the largest hospital
ship in the world, with 200 beds and 6 fully-fledged operating quarters, will
be further fitted out and completed.
Bert van Dijk, chairman of Mercy Ships: "The finishing touches to
the Global Mercy include the installation of systems and medical equipment
which, together with the 650 volunteers, will form the beating heart of this
exceptional hospital ship. This will enable us to save twice as many lives as
today, and that for the next 50 years".
NL: Mercy Ships gaf er
de voorkeur aan om het schip in te richten in de haven van Antwerpen vanwege de
flexibiliteit, de aantrekkelijke voorwaarden en de locatie, maar ook vanwege
het grote enthousiasme van betrouwbare partners en de hoge mate van
professionaliteit en kennis van Afrika, waar het schip zal worden ingezet. In
Antwerpen zijn intussen de voorbereidingen gestart om het schip te ontvangen.
Er is een plaats gereserveerd aan het Nautisch Operationeel Centrum van Port of
Antwerp. Veel bedrijven en organisaties hebben reeds hun medewerking met
enthousiasme toegezegd.
“Met dit project willen we ook het maatschappelijke
engagement van de haven onderstrepen”, zegt Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO van Port
of Antwerp. “Tientallen bedrijven, binnen en buiten de haven, hebben al laten

Het schip zal 10 maanden per jaar in een Afrikaanse
haven aanmeren om er mensen de levensnoodzakelijke medische zorg te verlenen
die ze daar missen. Het zal ook als opleidings- en trainingscentrum dienen voor
plaatselijke gezondheidswerkers.

The ship will dock in an African port for 10 months
a year to provide people with the vital medical care they need there. It will

NL: Het jaar 2020 had een recordjaar geweest moeten zijn qua
cruiseaanlopen en passagiersaantallen. Spijtig genoeg dacht het coronavirus
daar anders over. In totaal kwamen er uiteindelijk maar twee zeecruiseschepen langs.
Ook voor 2021 wordt het afwachten welke schepen werkelijk zullen komen.
EN: The year 2020 should have been a record year in terms of cruise calls
and passenger numbers. Unfortunately, the corona virus took a different view.
In total, only two sea cruise ships passed in the end. For 2021, too, it
remains to be seen which ships will actually arrive.
NL: Met maarliefst 41 zeecruiseaanlopen zou 2020 het
recordseizoen van Antwerpen in 2001 evenaren. Qua passagiersaantallen ging er
zelfs ruimschoots een nieuw record gevestigd worden met maarliefst 42.000
zeecruisepassagiers. Het coronavirus zorgde er echter voor dat de volledige
cruise-industrie vanaf maart wereldwijd stil viel. Alle aanlopen werden
stelselmatig geannuleerd wanneer duidelijk werd dat dit probleem voor langere
tijd zou aanhouden.
De enige cruiseschepen die in
2020 naar Antwerpen kwamen waren MS AIDAcara van AIDA Cruises en MS Black Watch
van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in februari. In totaal brachten ze 2078 passagiers
naar de stad. Ondertussen werd MS Black Watch verkocht en vervangen door MS
Rotterdam van Holland America Line. MS Black Watch ligt nu in de buurt van
Istanboel in Turkije waar ze gebruikt gaat worden als drijvend hotel. Ook de
toekomst van MS AIDAcara is onzeker. AIDA Cruises liet recent weten dat ze eventueel
één of meerde schepen zouden verkopen.
Rond de zomer waagden sommige
rederijen zich aan een voorzichtige heropstart van hun cruises. Ponant en
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises staken terug in zee met zeer strenge hygiëneregels. Die
laatste had ook de intentie om nog drie aanlopen te doen in Antwerpen in
oktober. Spijtig genoeg vielen die samen met de tweede besmettingsgolf waardoor
de aanvragen geweigerd werden.
EN: With no fewer than 41 sea cruise
runs, 2020 would equal Antwerp's record season of 2001. In terms of passenger
numbers, a new record would have been set with no less than 42,000 sea cruise
passengers. However, the corona virus caused the entire cruise industry to
grind to a halt worldwide from March onwards. All calls were systematically
cancelled when it became clear that the problem would persist for an extended
period of time.
The only cruise ships coming to Antwerp in 2020
were MS AIDAcara from AIDA Cruises and MS Black Watch of Fred. Olsen Cruise
Lines in February. They brought a total of 2078 passengers to the city. A few
months later, MS Black Watch was sold and replaced by MS Rotterdam of Holland
America Line. MS Black Watch is now located near Istanbul in Turkey where it
will be used as a floating hotel. Also the future of MS AIDAcara is uncertain
as AIDA Cruises recently announced that they might sell one or more ships.
Around the summer some cruise lines dared to
carefully restart their cruises. Ponant and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises returned to sea
with very strict hygiene rules. The latter also intended to make three more
calls at Antwerp in October. Unfortunately, these coincided with the second
wave of infections, after which the applications were refused.
Vooruitblik naar 2021 / Outlook for 2021
NL: Momenteel ziet het zeecruiseseizoen voor 2021 er nog
veel belovend uit. Er zouden 6 schepen voor de eerste keer naar de stad komen,
waaronder ook de Sea Cloud Spirit, een splinternieuw zeilcruiseschip. Het
nieuwe schip van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, MS Bolette, zou ook enkele keren te
zien moeten zijn in Antwerpen.
Het is wel nog afwachten welke
schepen ook echt zullen langskomen. Tot vorige week stonden er nog 30
zeecruiseaanlopen gepland, maar dat is nu al teruggevallen op 26 omdat Fred.
Olsen Cruise Lines hun vaarpauze opnieuw verlengd heeft tot het voorjaar van
2021. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk zullen ook nog andere rederijen deze beslissing
volgen.

Wat wel zeker is, is dat de
schepen in 2021 ontvangen zullen worden aan de nieuwe cruiseterminal in Het
Steen. De schepen zullen vanaf dan aanmeren aan het cruiseponton aan het
Noorderterras. Onderaan dit artikel kan je enkele foto’s bekijken van de werf die eind november
genomen werden door de fotograaf van AG Vespa.
EN: At the moment, the sea cruise
season for 2021 still looks promising. There should be 6 ships coming to the
city for the first time, including the Sea Cloud Spirit, a brand new sailing
cruise ship. The new ship of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, MS Bolette, should also

What is certain is that the ships will be
received at the new cruise terminal in the medieval fortress ‘Het Steen’ in 2021. From then on, the ships
will moor at the cruise pontoon at the Noorderterras. Below you can see some
pictures of the building site taken by the photographer of AG Vespa at the end
of November.
NL: Aan de Scheldekaaien kwamen tussen 8 en 10 oktober 2020 de
verschillende delen van het nieuwe cruiseponton aan. Ter hoogte van het
Noorderterras worden de onderdelen in de komende maanden verder afgewerkt.
Begin 2021 zal het eerste cruiseschip kunnen aanmeren aan het ponton.
EN: Between 8 and 10 October 2020, the different parts of the new cruise
pontoon arrived at the Scheldt quays. At the Noorderterras, the parts will be

NL: In mei 2018 werd aangekondigd dat Het Steen zou worden
omgebouwd tot toeristisch centrum met een nieuwe cruiseterminal. Daarbij werd
ook een nieuw ponton ontworpen waaraan zowel de zeecruises als de riviercruises
kunnen aanmeren.
Nadat op 24 september al enkele
kleinere onderdelen van dat nieuwe cruiseponton aangekomen waren in Antwerpen,
was het op tussen 8 en 10 oktober de beurt aan de grote onderdelen. De drie
grote pontondelen vormen samen een 350 meter lang ponton. Met behulp van twee
grote pontonkranen werden de twee 70 meter lange loopbruggen op hun plaats
gehesen. Het bestaande Flandriaponton aan Het Steen zal ook verbonden worden
met het nieuwe ponton.
EN: In May 2018 it was announced that
Het Steen would be converted into a tourist centre with a new cruise terminal.
A new pontoon was also designed to accommodate both sea and river cruises.
After a number of smaller parts of the new
cruise pontoon had already arrived in Antwerp on 24 September, it was the turn
of the large parts between 8 and 10 October. The three large pontoons together
form a 350-metre long pontoon. With the help of two large pontoon cranes, the
two 70-metre-long gangways were lifted into place. The existing Flandria
pontoon at Het Steen will also be connected to the new pontoon.
NL: Het nieuwe ponton en de cruiseterminal maken deel uit
van het nieuwe toeristische centrum dat ontstaat in Het Steen. “De rede van
Antwerpen, dé plek waar de stad ontstond, blazen we nieuw maritiem leven in.
Antwerpenaren zullen hier opnieuw naar de boten kunnen komen kijken, naar de
wereld die op bezoek komt. Antwerpen is een van de weinige steden waar
cruiseschepen in het centrum kunnen aanmeren.Zoiets is een troef om toeristen aan te trekken. Het historische hart van
de stad, met de talrijke monumenten, musea, cafés en restaurants, zal door de
cruiseterminal en de herinrichting van Het Steen een grote boost krijgen”,
liet Schepen van Toerisme Koen Kennis weten.
Over de komende maanden zullen
alle verschillende onderdelen van het ponton verder afgewerkt worden. Zo worden
ze aan elkaar gemonteerd en zal er ook ballast toegevoegd worden in de pontons.
Op die manier zullen ze minder invloed hebben van de deining.
Als alles goed gaat zal het
eerste cruiseschip begin 2021 aanmeren aan het nieuwe ponton.

Over the coming months, all the different parts
of the pontoon will be finished. They will be assembled and ballast will also
be added to the pontoons. In this way they will have less influence of the
swell.
If all goes well, the first cruise ship will
moor to the new pontoon at the beginning of 2021.

oktober aangekomen zijn aan het Noorderterras, vlak naast Het Steen.

Geschilderd staal / Painted Steel
NL: Op het ponton komt een luifel die de passagiers
beschermt tegen regen en afschermt van het water. De wand van de luifel heeft een open patroon,
net zoals de toegangsbruggen en het paviljoen. De hoofdstructuur van de
toegangsbruggen bestaat uit geschilderd staal.
De verschillende delen worden geschilderd in
een lichtgrijze kleur aan de buitenzijde en in heldere kleuren aan de
binnenzijde. De luifel kleurt aan de binnenzijde maritiem blauw, de
toegangsbruggen geel. De kleuren zijn geïnspireerd op de typische kleuren die
aanwezig zijn in de haven.
EN: On the pontoon there will be an
awning to protect passengers from rain and shield them from the water. The wall
of the awning has an open pattern, as do the access bridges and the pavilion.
The main structure of the access bridges consists of painted steel.
The different parts are painted in a light grey
colour on the outside and in bright colours on the inside. On the inside, the
awning colours maritime blue, the access bridges yellow. The colours are
inspired by the typical colours present in the harbour.
Transport in verschillende delen / Transport is several parts
NL: Het vervoeren van het cruiseponton zal in verschillende
delen gebeuren.
- Van aan de Zuidnatie in de
Antwerpse haven zal één van de kleinere pontons met een doorzichtig paviljoen
naar Het Steen gevaren worden.
- Vanuit Wondelgem zullen de
andere pontondelen naar Antwerpen gevaren worden. Het gaat hierbij om de 3
grote delen het cruiseponton die elk 120 meter lang en 9 meter breed zijn.
Daarnaast vervoeren ze ook nog twee kleinere pontons en de loopbruggen die
hierop zullen aansluiten.
Na de aankomst zullen de
verschillende onderdelen in de komende maanden verder afgewerkt en gemonteerd
worden. Er zal ook een verbinding gemaakt worden tussen het nieuwe cruiseponton
en het Flandriaponton voor het Steenplein. Als alles volgens plan verloopt
zullen de werken afgerond zijn tegen het voorjaar van 2021 zodat de eerste
cruiseschepen dan aan het nieuwe ponton zullen kunnen aanmeren.
EN: The transport of the cruise pontoon
will take place in different parts.
- From the Zuidnatie in the port of Antwerp one
of the smaller pontoons with a transparent pavilion will be sailed to Het
Steen.
- From Wondelgem the other pontoons will be
sailed to Antwerp. These are the three large parts of the cruise pontoon, each
120 metres long and 9 metres wide. In addition, they also transport two smaller
pontoons and the footbridges that will connect to them.
After arrival, the various parts will be
further finished and assembled in the coming months. A connection will also be
made between the new cruise pontoon and the Flandria-pontoon in front of the

to the new pontoon.
NL: Het is met spijt te moeten meedelen dat Cruise &
Maritime Voyages (CMV) en hun Duitse dochtermaatschappij TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten het faillissement hebben aangevraagd. Alle toekomstige cruises
zijn hierdoor geannuleerd.
EN: It is with regret that we inform you that Cruise & Maritime Voyages
(CMV) and their German subsidiary TransOcean Kreuzfahrten have filed for
bankruptcy. As a result, all future cruises have been cancelled.
NL: Antwerpen verliest hiermee een zeer trouwe klant. Beide
rederijen bezochten de stad op regelmatige basis. In 2020 stonden er in totaal
zes aanlopen van CMV gepland en vier van TransOcean Kreuzfahrten. Sinds het
allereerste bezoek van MS Marco Polo in mei 2010 heeft Cruise & Maritime
Voyages maarliefst 47 keer in Antwerpen gelegen met hun schepen. Op één schip
na, MS Ocean Countess, was de volledige vloot te zien in de Scheldestad.
EN: Antwerp loses a very loyal
customer. Both cruise lines visited the city on a regular basis. In 2020, a
total of six calls were planned by CMV and four by TransOcean Kreuzfahrten.
Since the very first visit of MS Marco Polo in May 2010, Cruise & Maritime
Voyages has been in Antwerp with their ships no less than 47 times. With the
exception of one ship, MS Ocean Countess, the entire fleet was on display in
the city of the Scheldt.
NL: Hun vloot bestond uit kleinere klassieke schepen die
gepromoot werden voor voornamelijk Engelse passagiers. Zo was de meer dan 50
jaar oude MS Marco Polo een absolute favoriet. Ook hebben ze voor enkele
seizoenen het oudste cruiseschip ter wereld gecharterd; MS Astoria. MS Magellan
en MS Columbus kwamen respectievelijk in 2015 en 2017 bij de rederij. MS Columbus bezocht Antwerpen zelfs tijdens haar allereerste reis. De
schepen waren wel veel groter, toch was ook hierop de klassieke sfeer terug te
vinden.
Ondertussen had CMV ook de Duitse
rederij TransOcean Kreuzfahrten in 2014 opgekocht doordat ze toen in financiële
problemen zat. Zij voeren rond met MS Astor, een schip dat enorm geliefd was op
de Duitse markt, en enkele riviercruiseschepen. CMV kocht alles over en bouwde
de zeecruisebranche van TransOcean uit door Magellan, Columbus en Vasco Da Gama
ook deels in te zetten voor de Duitse markt. Terwijl CMV de schepen in de
wintermaanden richting Australië stuurde. In totaal kwam TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten 11 keer naar Antwerpen vanaf 2015.
EN: Their fleet consisted of smaller
classic ships that were promoted for mainly English passengers. The more than
50 year old MS Marco Polo was an absolute favourite. They also chartered the
oldest cruise ship in the world for a few seasons; MS Astoria. MS Magellan and
MS Columbus joined the shipping company in 2015 and 2017 respectively. MS Columbus even visited Antwerp during its Maiden Voyage. Although
the ships were much larger, they still had the classic atmosphere.
Meanwhile, CMV had also bought the German
shipping company TransOcean Kreuzfahrten in 2014 because it was in financial
difficulties at that time. They sailed cruises with MS Astor, a ship that was
very popular on the German market, and a few river cruise ships. CMV bought
everything and expanded TransOcean's sea cruise business by deploying Magellan,
Columbus and Vasco Da Gama partly for the German market, while CMV sent the
ships to Australia during the winter months. In total, TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten came to Antwerp 11 times from 2015.
Geplande uitbreiding van de vloot / Planned fleet expansion
NL: Cruise & Maritime Voyages had grootste plannen voor
2021. Zo hadden ze twee schepen overgekocht van P&O Cruises Australia, een
dochtermaatschappij van Carnival Corp. MS Pacific Aria, een zusterschip van MS
Vasco Da Gama, zou bij de vloot gevoegd worden als MS Ida Pfeifer. MS Pacific
Dawn zou omgedoopt worden tot MS Amy Johnson en stond ook gepland om naar
Antwerpen te komen in mei 2021. Verder ging MS Astor in mei 2021
omgedoopt worden tot MS Jules Verne om te gaan varen voor een nieuwe Franse tak
van CMV, namelijk Croisières Maritimes & Voyages.
Wat er met de schepen gaat
gebeuren is nog niet bekend, maar gezien de hoge leeftijd van enkele ervan is
een enkele reis naar de sloopwerf spijtig genoeg niet ondenkbaar.
EN: Cruise & Maritime Voyages had
big plans for 2021. They had bought two ships from P&O Cruises Australia, a
subsidiary of Carnival Corp. MS Pacific Aria, a sister ship of MS Vasco Da
Gama, was to join the fleet as MS Ida Pfeifer. MS Pacific Dawn was to be named
MS Amy Johnson and was also scheduled to visit Antwerp in May 2021. Furthermore, MS Astor was to be renamed MS
Jules Verne in May 2021 to sail for a new French branch of CMV: Croisières
Maritimes & Voyages.
What will happen to the ships is not yet known,
but given the advanced age of some of them, a single voyage to the scrapyard is sadly not unthinkable.
NL: Het eerste van drie delen van het nieuwe cruiseponton zag
eind mei het daglicht bij Victor Buyck Steel Constructions in Wondelgem. In het
najaar zullen alle delen naar Antwerpen gevaren worden. Bij de start van het
nieuwe cruiseseizoen in 2021 zal het eerste cruiseschip aanmeren aan het
ponton.
EN: The first of three parts of the new cruise pontoon saw daylight at the
end of May at Victor Buyck Steel Constructions in Wondelgem, Belgium. In the
autumn all parts will be sailed to Antwerp. At the start of the new cruise

NL: Terwijl de werken aan de nieuwe cruiseterminal in Het
Steen goed vorderen, wordt er ook hard gewerkt aan het nieuwe ponton waaraan de
cruiseschepen in de toekomst zullen aanmeren. De Belgische firma Victor Buyck
Steel Construction neemt deze opdracht voor hun rekening in hun vestigingen in
Eeklo en Wondelgem.
Eind mei werd het eerste van drie
delen van het nieuwe cruiseponton uit de overdekte hal in Wondelgem gereden. Het
heeft een lengte van 120 meter, is 9 meter breed, 5,5 meter hoog met de luifel
erbij gerekend en weegt maarliefst rond de 750 ton. Nadat alle pontons klaar
zijn, zullen ze in Wondelgem te water gelaten worden waarna ze naar Antwerpen
getransporteerd worden. Dat zal ergens in de loop van het najaar gebeuren. Maar
voor die tijd worden de pontons nog verder uitgerust met bolders, fenders of
stootkussens en ladders. Ook aan de nieuwe loopbruggen die het ponton met de
kaaimuur zullen verbinden wordt hard gewerkt.
EN: While work on the new cruise
terminal at Het Steen is progressing well, work is also underway on the new
pontoon to which the cruise ships will moor in the future. The Belgian company
Victor Buyck Steel Construction is taking on this assignment at their sites in
Eeklo and Wondelgem.
At the end of May the first of three parts of
the new cruise pontoon was driven out of the covered hall in Wondelgem. It has
a length of 120 meters, is 9 meters wide, 5,5 meters high with the awning
included and weighs about 750 tons. After all the pontoons are ready, they will
be launched into the canal in Wondelgem after which they will be transported to
Antwerp. This will take place sometime during autumn. But before then, the
pontoons will be further equipped with bollards, fenders and ladders. They are
also working hard on the new footbridges that will connect the pontoon with the
quay wall.
NL: Met de opening van de nieuwe cruiseterminal in Het Steen
zullen de cruiseschepen niet langer rechtstreeks aan de kaaimuur aanmeren, maar
aan het nieuwe cruiseponton. Hierdoor zullen de schepen ook hun eigen gangway

Veel havens weren uit voorzorg ook
zelf de cruiseschepen. De Stad Antwerpen heeft ook beslist om de cruiseterminal
tijdelijk te sluiten. Cruiseschepen mogen nog steeds aanmeren in de stad om proviand
aan boord te nemen maar niemand mag van boord gaan. Dit geldt voor zowel de
zee- als riviercruises die de stad bezoeken en gaat in met onmiddellijke
werking. Deze maatregel blijft gelden tot nader bericht. Vanaf juli 2020 mogen riviercruiseschepen opnieuw aanmeren in Antwerpen onder stricte voorwaarden. Via deze link vindt u het aangepaste afmeerplan voor de schepen. Voor de zeecruiseschepen is er momenteel nog geen nieuwe beslissing genomen.

Annulaties / Cancellations
NL: Doordat de meeste cruiserederijen hun cruiseschepen niet meer laten varen zullen er ook een aantal cruiseaanlopen in Antwerpen geannuleerd
worden. Niet elke rederij heeft momenteel haar activiteiten opgeschort tot
dezelfde datum. Het valt dus nog af te wachten hoe de situatie zal evolueren.
Momenteel is het al wel zeker dat Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines vier cruiseaanlopen annuleert.
Zij stoppen met varen tot en met 22 mei 2020. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises annuleert hun aanloop van de Europa 2 in Antwerpen. Holland America Line verlengt hun vaarpauze tot en met 14 mei (stand 30/03) waardoor twee van de drie cruiseaanlopen van MS Veendam in 2020 wegvallen. De maiden call van het schip wordt momenteel verschoven naar 23/08. Cruise & Maritime Voyages heeft bekendgemaakt dat ze hun schepen al zeker tot 24 mei (stand 06/04) op non-actief zetten. Hierdoor vallen twee aanlopen van MS Columbus weg.AIDA Cruises verlengt hun pauze tot 31 mei (stand 08/04) waardoor een aanloop van MS AIDAvita wegvalt.Phoenix Reisen annuleert nu ook extra cruises waaronder de aanloop van MS Albatros eind mei (stand 15/04). De aanloop van MS National Geographic Explorer van Lindblad Expeditions is nu ook geannuleerd maar wordt volgens de rederij verschoven naar 2021. Met deze annulatie zijn alle cruiseaanlopen in mei afgelast. De cruise-industrie ziet een heropstart nog niet direct mogelijk. Holland America Line heeft daarom beslist om alle cruises in Europa, Alaska en Canada/New England voor de rest van 2020 te annuleren (stand 06/05). Hierdoor vervalt ook de derde en laatste aanloop van MS Veendam in Antwerpen voor dit jaar. Het schip wordt wel nog verwacht in Antwerpen in 2021. Sea Cloud Cruises annuleert hun ook al haar cruises tot eind juni waardoor hun zeilcruiseschip Sea Cloud II niet gaat komen. Ook Ponant annuleert extra cruises waardoor begin juli de maiden call van hun nagelnieuwe schip Le Jacques Cartier ook wegvalt. NCLH, het moederbedrijf van Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises en Regent Seven Seas Cruises, heeft besloten om alle cruises tot en met 31 juli te annuleren. Vanaf 1 augustus gaan ze proberen om terug op te starten. Dit betekent wel dat de maiden call van MS Nautica en de aanloop van MS Seven Seas Navigator wegvallen. Plantours Kreuzfahrten heeft nu ook de cruise van MS Hamburg naar Antwerpen moeten afzeggen. Ook Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines verlengt hun vaarpauze tot 18 juli waardoor een aanloop van MS Boudicca wegvalt. Het aantal annulaties komt daarmee op 19. Op 20 juli liet Cruise & Maritime Voyages en TransOcean Krezufahrten weten dat ze het faillissement aanvragen. Hierdoor vallen er dit jaar nog 8 cruiseaanlopen weg. Daarnaast heeft Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines hun vaarpauze nog verlengd waardoor nog aan aanloop van MS Balmoral wegvalt. De geplande cruise van Le Dumont D'Urville van Ponant en de aanloop van The World zal ook niet doorgaan.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines heeft opnieuw hun vaarpauze verlengt waardoor de cruises van MS Black Watch, MS Boudicca, MS Braemar en MS Balmoral wegvallen in oktober en november. AIDA Cruises verlengt hun vaarpauze tot eind september waardoor de twee aanlopen van AIDAvita wegvallen. Ook MS Artania van Phoenix Reisen valt weg in oktober. Ponant annulleerde ondertussen ook de aanloop van Le Bellot.
Saga Cruises heeft bekend gemaakt dat ze al hun cruises annuleren tot begin 2021. Hierdoor valt de maiden call van MS Spirit of Discovery in Antwerpen eind december ook weg. Dat was de laatste aanloop die nog niet geannulleerd was voor 2020. NL: In het voorjaar
van 2021 zal het schip MS Global Mercy in Antwerpen ingericht en afgewerkt
worden tot het grootste private ziekenhuisschip ter wereld. Daarover hebben
Port of Antwerp en hulporganisatie Mercy Ships overeenstemming bereikt. Het
schip zal kosteloos gedurende meer dan 3 maanden in de haven van Antwerpen
kunnen liggen voor deze werken. Tientallen Belgische bedrijven en organisaties
zullen meewerken aan het project. De bouw van de Global Mercy maakt vanaf eind
2021 een verdubbeling van de medische hulp mogelijk in de allerarmste landen
van Afrika.

gepland. Daarna wordt het klaargemaakt voor vertrek naar Antwerpen. In de haven
van Antwerpen zal het grootste ziekenhuisschip ter wereld, met 200 bedden en 6
volwaardige operatiekwartieren, verder ingericht en afgewerkt worden.
Bert van Dijk, voorzitter van Mercy Ships: “De
afwerking van de Global Mercy omvat de installatie van systemen en medische
apparatuur die samen met de 650 vrijwilligers het kloppend hart gaan vormen van
dit uitzonderlijke ziekenhuisschip. Hiermee zullen we dubbel zoveel
mensenlevens kunnen redden als vandaag het geval is, en dat voor de komende 50
jaar”.

where it is being built by the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC)
at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard. The ship is 174 metres long, 28 metres wide,

Het schip zal 10 maanden per jaar in een Afrikaanse
haven aanmeren om er mensen de levensnoodzakelijke medische zorg te verlenen
die ze daar missen. Het zal ook als opleidings- en trainingscentrum dienen voor
plaatselijke gezondheidswerkers.

NL: Het jaar 2020 had een recordjaar geweest moeten zijn qua
cruiseaanlopen en passagiersaantallen. Spijtig genoeg dacht het coronavirus
daar anders over. In totaal kwamen er uiteindelijk maar twee zeecruiseschepen langs.
Ook voor 2021 wordt het afwachten welke schepen werkelijk zullen komen.

and passenger numbers. Unfortunately, the corona virus took a different view.
In total, only two sea cruise ships passed in the end. For 2021, too, it

NL: Met maarliefst 41 zeecruiseaanlopen zou 2020 het
recordseizoen van Antwerpen in 2001 evenaren. Qua passagiersaantallen ging er
zelfs ruimschoots een nieuw record gevestigd worden met maarliefst 42.000
zeecruisepassagiers. Het coronavirus zorgde er echter voor dat de volledige
cruise-industrie vanaf maart wereldwijd stil viel. Alle aanlopen werden
stelselmatig geannuleerd wanneer duidelijk werd dat dit probleem voor langere
tijd zou aanhouden.
De enige cruiseschepen die in
2020 naar Antwerpen kwamen waren MS AIDAcara van AIDA Cruises en MS Black Watch
van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines in februari. In totaal brachten ze 2078 passagiers
naar de stad. Ondertussen werd MS Black Watch verkocht en vervangen door MS
Rotterdam van Holland America Line. MS Black Watch ligt nu in de buurt van
Istanboel in Turkije waar ze gebruikt gaat worden als drijvend hotel. Ook de
toekomst van MS AIDAcara is onzeker. AIDA Cruises liet recent weten dat ze eventueel
één of meerde schepen zouden verkopen.
Rond de zomer waagden sommige
rederijen zich aan een voorzichtige heropstart van hun cruises. Ponant en
Hapag-Lloyd Cruises staken terug in zee met zeer strenge hygiëneregels. Die
laatste had ook de intentie om nog drie aanlopen te doen in Antwerpen in
oktober. Spijtig genoeg vielen die samen met de tweede besmettingsgolf waardoor
de aanvragen geweigerd werden.
EN: With no fewer than 41 sea cruise
runs, 2020 would equal Antwerp's record season of 2001. In terms of passenger
numbers, a new record would have been set with no less than 42,000 sea cruise
passengers. However, the corona virus caused the entire cruise industry to
grind to a halt worldwide from March onwards. All calls were systematically
cancelled when it became clear that the problem would persist for an extended
period of time.
The only cruise ships coming to Antwerp in 2020
were MS AIDAcara from AIDA Cruises and MS Black Watch of Fred. Olsen Cruise
Lines in February. They brought a total of 2078 passengers to the city. A few
months later, MS Black Watch was sold and replaced by MS Rotterdam of Holland
America Line. MS Black Watch is now located near Istanbul in Turkey where it
will be used as a floating hotel. Also the future of MS AIDAcara is uncertain
as AIDA Cruises recently announced that they might sell one or more ships.
Around the summer some cruise lines dared to
carefully restart their cruises. Ponant and Hapag-Lloyd Cruises returned to sea
with very strict hygiene rules. The latter also intended to make three more
calls at Antwerp in October. Unfortunately, these coincided with the second
wave of infections, after which the applications were refused.
Vooruitblik naar 2021 / Outlook for 2021
NL: Momenteel ziet het zeecruiseseizoen voor 2021 er nog
veel belovend uit. Er zouden 6 schepen voor de eerste keer naar de stad komen,
waaronder ook de Sea Cloud Spirit, een splinternieuw zeilcruiseschip. Het
nieuwe schip van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, MS Bolette, zou ook enkele keren te
zien moeten zijn in Antwerpen.
Het is wel nog afwachten welke
schepen ook echt zullen langskomen. Tot vorige week stonden er nog 30
zeecruiseaanlopen gepland, maar dat is nu al teruggevallen op 26 omdat Fred.
Olsen Cruise Lines hun vaarpauze opnieuw verlengd heeft tot het voorjaar van
2021. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk zullen ook nog andere rederijen deze beslissing
volgen.

Wat wel zeker is, is dat de
schepen in 2021 ontvangen zullen worden aan de nieuwe cruiseterminal in Het
Steen. De schepen zullen vanaf dan aanmeren aan het cruiseponton aan het
Noorderterras. Onderaan dit artikel kan je enkele foto’s bekijken van de werf die eind november

ook een nieuw ponton ontworpen waaraan zowel de zeecruises als de riviercruises
kunnen aanmeren.
Nadat op 24 september al enkele
kleinere onderdelen van dat nieuwe cruiseponton aangekomen waren in Antwerpen,
was het op tussen 8 en 10 oktober de beurt aan de grote onderdelen. De drie
grote pontondelen vormen samen een 350 meter lang ponton. Met behulp van twee
grote pontonkranen werden de twee 70 meter lange loopbruggen op hun plaats
gehesen. Het bestaande Flandriaponton aan Het Steen zal ook verbonden worden
met het nieuwe ponton.

cruiseschepen in het centrum kunnen aanmeren.Zoiets is een troef om toeristen aan te trekken. Het historische hart van
de stad, met de talrijke monumenten, musea, cafés en restaurants, zal door de
cruiseterminal en de herinrichting van Het Steen een grote boost krijgen”,
liet Schepen van Toerisme Koen Kennis weten.
Over de komende maanden zullen
alle verschillende onderdelen van het ponton verder afgewerkt worden. Zo worden
ze aan elkaar gemonteerd en zal er ook ballast toegevoegd worden in de pontons.
Op die manier zullen ze minder invloed hebben van de deining.
Als alles goed gaat zal het
eerste cruiseschip begin 2021 aanmeren aan het nieuwe ponton.

Over the coming months, all the different parts
of the pontoon will be finished. They will be assembled and ballast will also
be added to the pontoons. In this way they will have less influence of the
swell.
If all goes well, the first cruise ship will
moor to the new pontoon at the beginning of 2021.

oktober aangekomen zijn aan het Noorderterras, vlak naast Het Steen.

Geschilderd staal / Painted Steel
NL: Op het ponton komt een luifel die de passagiers
beschermt tegen regen en afschermt van het water. De wand van de luifel heeft een open patroon,
net zoals de toegangsbruggen en het paviljoen. De hoofdstructuur van de
toegangsbruggen bestaat uit geschilderd staal.
De verschillende delen worden geschilderd in
een lichtgrijze kleur aan de buitenzijde en in heldere kleuren aan de
binnenzijde. De luifel kleurt aan de binnenzijde maritiem blauw, de
toegangsbruggen geel. De kleuren zijn geïnspireerd op de typische kleuren die
aanwezig zijn in de haven.
EN: On the pontoon there will be an
awning to protect passengers from rain and shield them from the water. The wall
of the awning has an open pattern, as do the access bridges and the pavilion.
The main structure of the access bridges consists of painted steel.
The different parts are painted in a light grey
colour on the outside and in bright colours on the inside. On the inside, the
awning colours maritime blue, the access bridges yellow. The colours are
inspired by the typical colours present in the harbour.
Transport in verschillende delen / Transport is several parts
NL: Het vervoeren van het cruiseponton zal in verschillende
delen gebeuren.
- Van aan de Zuidnatie in de
Antwerpse haven zal één van de kleinere pontons met een doorzichtig paviljoen
naar Het Steen gevaren worden.
- Vanuit Wondelgem zullen de
andere pontondelen naar Antwerpen gevaren worden. Het gaat hierbij om de 3
grote delen het cruiseponton die elk 120 meter lang en 9 meter breed zijn.
Daarnaast vervoeren ze ook nog twee kleinere pontons en de loopbruggen die
hierop zullen aansluiten.
Na de aankomst zullen de
verschillende onderdelen in de komende maanden verder afgewerkt en gemonteerd
worden. Er zal ook een verbinding gemaakt worden tussen het nieuwe cruiseponton
en het Flandriaponton voor het Steenplein. Als alles volgens plan verloopt
zullen de werken afgerond zijn tegen het voorjaar van 2021 zodat de eerste
cruiseschepen dan aan het nieuwe ponton zullen kunnen aanmeren.

Maritime Voyages (CMV) en hun Duitse dochtermaatschappij TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten het faillissement hebben aangevraagd. Alle toekomstige cruises
zijn hierdoor geannuleerd.
EN: It is with regret that we inform you that Cruise & Maritime Voyages
(CMV) and their German subsidiary TransOcean Kreuzfahrten have filed for
bankruptcy. As a result, all future cruises have been cancelled.
NL: Antwerpen verliest hiermee een zeer trouwe klant. Beide
rederijen bezochten de stad op regelmatige basis. In 2020 stonden er in totaal
zes aanlopen van CMV gepland en vier van TransOcean Kreuzfahrten. Sinds het
allereerste bezoek van MS Marco Polo in mei 2010 heeft Cruise & Maritime
Voyages maarliefst 47 keer in Antwerpen gelegen met hun schepen. Op één schip
na, MS Ocean Countess, was de volledige vloot te zien in de Scheldestad.
EN: Antwerp loses a very loyal
customer. Both cruise lines visited the city on a regular basis. In 2020, a
total of six calls were planned by CMV and four by TransOcean Kreuzfahrten.
Since the very first visit of MS Marco Polo in May 2010, Cruise & Maritime
Voyages has been in Antwerp with their ships no less than 47 times. With the
exception of one ship, MS Ocean Countess, the entire fleet was on display in
the city of the Scheldt.
NL: Hun vloot bestond uit kleinere klassieke schepen die
gepromoot werden voor voornamelijk Engelse passagiers. Zo was de meer dan 50
jaar oude MS Marco Polo een absolute favoriet. Ook hebben ze voor enkele
seizoenen het oudste cruiseschip ter wereld gecharterd; MS Astoria. MS Magellan
en MS Columbus kwamen respectievelijk in 2015 en 2017 bij de rederij. MS Columbus bezocht Antwerpen zelfs tijdens haar allereerste reis. De
schepen waren wel veel groter, toch was ook hierop de klassieke sfeer terug te
vinden.
Ondertussen had CMV ook de Duitse
rederij TransOcean Kreuzfahrten in 2014 opgekocht doordat ze toen in financiële
problemen zat. Zij voeren rond met MS Astor, een schip dat enorm geliefd was op
de Duitse markt, en enkele riviercruiseschepen. CMV kocht alles over en bouwde
de zeecruisebranche van TransOcean uit door Magellan, Columbus en Vasco Da Gama
ook deels in te zetten voor de Duitse markt. Terwijl CMV de schepen in de
wintermaanden richting Australië stuurde. In totaal kwam TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten 11 keer naar Antwerpen vanaf 2015.

ships to Australia during the winter months. In total, TransOcean
Kreuzfahrten came to Antwerp 11 times from 2015.
Geplande uitbreiding van de vloot / Planned fleet expansion
NL: Cruise & Maritime Voyages had grootste plannen voor
2021. Zo hadden ze twee schepen overgekocht van P&O Cruises Australia, een
dochtermaatschappij van Carnival Corp. MS Pacific Aria, een zusterschip van MS
Vasco Da Gama, zou bij de vloot gevoegd worden als MS Ida Pfeifer. MS Pacific
Dawn zou omgedoopt worden tot MS Amy Johnson en stond ook gepland om naar
Antwerpen te komen in mei 2021. Verder ging MS Astor in mei 2021
omgedoopt worden tot MS Jules Verne om te gaan varen voor een nieuwe Franse tak
van CMV, namelijk Croisières Maritimes & Voyages.
Wat er met de schepen gaat
gebeuren is nog niet bekend, maar gezien de hoge leeftijd van enkele ervan is
een enkele reis naar de sloopwerf spijtig genoeg niet ondenkbaar.
EN: Cruise & Maritime Voyages had
big plans for 2021. They had bought two ships from P&O Cruises Australia, a
subsidiary of Carnival Corp. MS Pacific Aria, a sister ship of MS Vasco Da
Gama, was to join the fleet as MS Ida Pfeifer. MS Pacific Dawn was to be named
MS Amy Johnson and was also scheduled to visit Antwerp in May 2021. Furthermore, MS Astor was to be renamed MS
Jules Verne in May 2021 to sail for a new French branch of CMV: Croisières

What will happen to the ships is not yet known,

NL: Terwijl de werken aan de nieuwe cruiseterminal in Het
Steen goed vorderen, wordt er ook hard gewerkt aan het nieuwe ponton waaraan de
cruiseschepen in de toekomst zullen aanmeren. De Belgische firma Victor Buyck
Steel Construction neemt deze opdracht voor hun rekening in hun vestigingen in
Eeklo en Wondelgem.
Eind mei werd het eerste van drie
delen van het nieuwe cruiseponton uit de overdekte hal in Wondelgem gereden. Het
heeft een lengte van 120 meter, is 9 meter breed, 5,5 meter hoog met de luifel
erbij gerekend en weegt maarliefst rond de 750 ton. Nadat alle pontons klaar
zijn, zullen ze in Wondelgem te water gelaten worden waarna ze naar Antwerpen
getransporteerd worden. Dat zal ergens in de loop van het najaar gebeuren. Maar
voor die tijd worden de pontons nog verder uitgerust met bolders, fenders of
stootkussens en ladders. Ook aan de nieuwe loopbruggen die het ponton met de
kaaimuur zullen verbinden wordt hard gewerkt.

riviercruiseschepen bij laag tij niet langer onder de kaaimuur verdwijnen.
Daarbij zullen ze ook kunnen aansluiten op een walstroominstallatie waardoor ze
hun motoren niet constant moeten laten draaien.
Als alles goed gaat meert de
eerste cruiseschip aan aan het nieuw ponton in het voorjaar van 2021, bij de

wegens de uitbraak van het coronavirus COVID-19. Veel rederijen stoppen
tegelijkertijd ook wereldwijd met varen. Hierdoor worden verschillende cruiseaanlopen

EN: The City of Antwerp has decided to temporarily close
the cruise terminal in Antwerp due to the outbreak of the corona virus
COVID-19. At the same time, many shipping companies worldwide have stopped

NL: De verspreiding van het nieuwe coronavirus COVID-19 heeft
wereldwijd een zware impact op het leven. Ook de cruise-industrie wordt
hierdoor zwaar getroffen. Zo goed als alle rederijen hebben besloten om hun cruiseactiviteiten
tijdelijk te stoppen. Ze varen hun cruises nog uit en blijven daarna in
de havens liggen.
Veel havens weren uit voorzorg ook
zelf de cruiseschepen. De Stad Antwerpen heeft ook beslist om de cruiseterminal
tijdelijk te sluiten. Cruiseschepen mogen nog steeds aanmeren in de stad om proviand
aan boord te nemen maar niemand mag van boord gaan. Dit geldt voor zowel de
zee- als riviercruises die de stad bezoeken en gaat in met onmiddellijke
werking. Deze maatregel blijft gelden tot nader bericht. Vanaf juli 2020 mogen riviercruiseschepen opnieuw aanmeren in Antwerpen onder stricte voorwaarden. Via deze link vindt u het aangepaste afmeerplan voor de schepen. Voor de zeecruiseschepen is er momenteel nog geen nieuwe beslissing genomen.

Annulaties / Cancellations
NL: Doordat de meeste cruiserederijen hun cruiseschepen niet meer laten varen zullen er ook een aantal cruiseaanlopen in Antwerpen geannuleerd
worden. Niet elke rederij heeft momenteel haar activiteiten opgeschort tot
dezelfde datum. Het valt dus nog af te wachten hoe de situatie zal evolueren.
Momenteel is het al wel zeker dat Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines vier cruiseaanlopen annuleert.
Zij stoppen met varen tot en met 22 mei 2020. Hapag-Lloyd Cruises annuleert hun aanloop van de Europa 2 in Antwerpen. Holland America Line verlengt hun vaarpauze tot en met 14 mei (stand 30/03) waardoor twee van de drie cruiseaanlopen van MS Veendam in 2020 wegvallen. De maiden call van het schip wordt momenteel verschoven naar 23/08. Cruise & Maritime Voyages heeft bekendgemaakt dat ze hun schepen al zeker tot 24 mei (stand 06/04) op non-actief zetten. Hierdoor vallen twee aanlopen van MS Columbus weg.AIDA Cruises verlengt hun pauze tot 31 mei (stand 08/04) waardoor een aanloop van MS AIDAvita wegvalt.Phoenix Reisen annuleert nu ook extra cruises waaronder de aanloop van MS Albatros eind mei (stand 15/04). De aanloop van MS National Geographic Explorer van Lindblad Expeditions is nu ook geannuleerd maar wordt volgens de rederij verschoven naar 2021. Met deze annulatie zijn alle cruiseaanlopen in mei afgelast. De cruise-industrie ziet een heropstart nog niet direct mogelijk. Holland America Line heeft daarom beslist om alle cruises in Europa, Alaska en Canada/New England voor de rest van 2020 te annuleren (stand 06/05). Hierdoor vervalt ook de derde en laatste aanloop van MS Veendam in Antwerpen voor dit jaar. Het schip wordt wel nog verwacht in Antwerpen in 2021. Sea Cloud Cruises annuleert hun ook al haar cruises tot eind juni waardoor hun zeilcruiseschip Sea Cloud II niet gaat komen. Ook Ponant annuleert extra cruises waardoor begin juli de maiden call van hun nagelnieuwe schip Le Jacques Cartier ook wegvalt. NCLH, het moederbedrijf van Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises en Regent Seven Seas Cruises, heeft besloten om alle cruises tot en met 31 juli te annuleren. Vanaf 1 augustus gaan ze proberen om terug op te starten. Dit betekent wel dat de maiden call van MS Nautica en de aanloop van MS Seven Seas Navigator wegvallen. Plantours Kreuzfahrten heeft nu ook de cruise van MS Hamburg naar Antwerpen moeten afzeggen. Ook Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines verlengt hun vaarpauze tot 18 juli waardoor een aanloop van MS Boudicca wegvalt. Het aantal annulaties komt daarmee op 19. Op 20 juli liet Cruise & Maritime Voyages en TransOcean Krezufahrten weten dat ze het faillissement aanvragen. Hierdoor vallen er dit jaar nog 8 cruiseaanlopen weg. Daarnaast heeft Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines hun vaarpauze nog verlengd waardoor nog aan aanloop van MS Balmoral wegvalt. De geplande cruise van Le Dumont D'Urville van Ponant en de aanloop van The World zal ook niet doorgaan.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines heeft opnieuw hun vaarpauze verlengt waardoor de cruises van MS Black Watch, MS Boudicca, MS Braemar en MS Balmoral wegvallen in oktober en november. AIDA Cruises verlengt hun vaarpauze tot eind september waardoor de twee aanlopen van AIDAvita wegvallen. Ook MS Artania van Phoenix Reisen valt weg in oktober. Ponant annulleerde ondertussen ook de aanloop van Le Bellot.
Saga Cruises heeft bekend gemaakt dat ze al hun cruises annuleren tot begin 2021. Hierdoor valt de maiden call van MS Spirit of Discovery in Antwerpen eind december ook weg. Dat was de laatste aanloop die nog niet geannulleerd was voor 2020. Phoenix Reisen is now also cancelling more cruises, including the call of MS Albatros at the end of May (situation 15/04).The call of MS National Geographic Explorer of Lindblad Expeditions has now also been cancelled but will be postponed to 2021 according to the cruise line. With this cancellation all cruise calls in May have been cancelled. The cruise industry does not yet see the possibility of a restart. Holland America Line has therefore decided to cancel all cruises in Europe, Alaska and Canada/New England for the rest of 2020 (situation 06/05). This will also cancel the third and final call of MS Veendam in Antwerp for this year, but the ship is expected to visit Antwerp in 2021. Sea Cloud Cruises is also cancelling all their cruises until the end of June, which means that their 'sailing cruise ship' Sea Cloud II will not be coming. Ponant also cancels extra cruises which means that the maiden call of their brand-new ship Le Jacques Cartier at the start of July will also be cancelled. NCLH, the parent company of Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, has decided to cancel all cruises until 31 July. From August 1st they will try to restart. This means that the maiden call of MS Nautica and the call of MS Seven Seas Navigator will be cancelled. On 20 July Cruise & Maritime Voyages and TransOcean Krezufahrten announced that they were filing for bankruptcy. As a result, 8 addiditional cruise calls will be cancelled this year. In addition, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines prolonged their sailing pause, which means that a call of MS Balmoral will be cancelled. The planned cruise of Le Dumont D'Urville of Ponant and the call of The World will not take place either.
Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines has once again extended their sailing break, as a result of which the cruises of MS Black Watch, MS Boudicca, MS Braemar and MS Balmoral will be cancelled in October and November. AIDA Cruises has also extended their sailing break until the end of September, which means that the two calls from AIDAvita will be cancelled. Also MS Artania from Phoenix Reisen will no longer visit the city in October.Meanwhile, Ponant also cancelled the call of Le Bellot.
Saga Cruises has announced that they will cancel all their cruises until the beginning of 2021. Because of this, the maiden call of MS Spirit of Discovery in Antwerp at the end of December will also be cancelled. That was the last cruise call for 2020 that had not yet been cancelled. It is very unlikely that cruise ships will still be visiting Antwerp this year.
