Extra Cruise Call MS Vasco da Gama in Antwerpen 2019

EN: This month the German cruise line TransOcean Kreufahrten unexpectedly announced that their newest ship, MS Vasco da Gama, will pay a visit to Antwerp during September. That will bring the number of cruise calls for 2019 back up to 33 after the cancellation of MS Roald Amundsen.

MS Vasco da Gama was only christened on 9 June 2019 at Bremerhaven. TransOcean Kreufahrt, a sub brand of Cruise & Maritime Voyages, decided to sail an extra cruise that will bring the 219 metres long ship to Antwerp on 16 September 2019.

The ship was built in 1993 as MS Statendam for Holland America Line. After that the ship was sold to P&O Australia as MS Pacific Eden in 2015. During May 2018 Cruise & Maritime Voyages announced that they would take over the ship.

Those who have been following the cruises in Antwerp for a long time will probably recognise the ship. MS Vasco da Gama is a sister ship of MS Maasdam. In 1996 this was the very first ship that visited the city after Cruise Port Antwerp was founded.
