NL: Het luxecruiseschip MS Silver Spirit van de Amerikaanse rederij Silversea Cruises meerde op 3 & 4 juli 2026 voor het eerst aan in Antwerpen. Een delegatie van de Stad Antwerpen overhandigde een plaquette en geschenken aan de kapitein. Het was de 3de en laatste ‘maiden call’ voor dit jaar.
EN: The luxury cruise ship MS Silver Spirit,
operated by the American cruise line Silversea Cruises, docked in Antwerp for
the first time on 3 and 4 July 2026. A delegation from the City of Antwerp
presented the captain with a commemorative plaque and gifts. It was the third
and final ‘maiden call’ of the year.

lange cruiseschip MS Silver Spirit meerde op 3 juli rond 08:00u aan aan het
cruiseponton bij Het Steen in Antwerpen. Het was de allereerste keer dat het
schip de Scheldestad bezocht. Zoals de traditie het wil, werd het schip in de
stad verwelkomd door een delegatie van de Stad Antwerpen. Aan boord kreeg kapitein
Luigi Ruitgliano een plaquette overhandigd met de naam van het schip, alsook
een boek over Antwerpen en chocoladen Antwerpse Handjes. Belgische chocolade
wordt elke keer weer met veel plezier in ontvangst genomen.
EN: The 210-metre-long cruise ship MS Silver
Spirit moored at the cruise pontoon at Het Steen in Antwerp at around 08:00 on
3 July. It was the very first time the ship had visited the city. In keeping
with tradition, the ship was welcomed into the city by a delegation from the
City of Antwerp. On board, Captain Luigi Ruitgliano was presented with a plaque
bearing the ship’s name, as well as a book about Antwerp and some ‘Antwerpse
Handjes’-chocolates. Belgian chocolate is always received with great pleasure.

Spirit werd eind december 2009 afgeleverd door de Italiaanse scheepswerf
Fincantieri en maakt net als de andere schepen van Silversea Cruises deel uit
van het ultra luxueuze cruisesegment. Toen het schip in de vaart kwam was het
195,8 meter. In 2018 werd besloten om het schip met 15 meter te verlengen. Dat
was nodig om het schip op hetzelfde luxueuze niveau te krijgen als hun toenmalige
nieuwste schip MS Silver Muse. MS Silver Spirit werd bij Fincantieri ter hoogte
van het zwembad in twee gezaagd waarna het nieuwe deel ertussen geplaatst werd.
Op 3 mei 2018 kwam het schip terug in de vaart met haar nieuwe lengte van 210,7
meter.
EN: MS Silver Spirit was delivered by the Italian
shipyard Fincantieri at the end of December 2009 and, like the other ships in
the Silversea Cruises fleet, is part of the ultra-luxury cruise segment. When
the ship entered service, it was 195.8 metres long. In 2018, it was decided to
extend the ship by 15 metres. This was necessary to bring the ship up to the
same level of luxury as their then-newest ship, MS Silver Muse. MS Silver
Spirit was cut in two at Fincantieri, at the swimming pool, after which the new
section was fitted between the two halves. On 3 May 2018, the ship returned to
service with its new length of 210.7 metres.
NL: Met de
verlenging werden nieuwe suites toegevoegd maar ook het pool deck werd
aanzienlijk vergroot. Ook de restaurants werden uitgebreid. Recent ontwikkelde Silversea
het S.A.L.T.-culinair programma voor aan boord van hun schepen. S.A.L.T. staat
voor ‘Sea And Land Taste’ en brengt de lokale keuken op een hoogstaande manier
aan boord van het schip tijdens elke cruise. Het menu verandert hierdoor
constant naargelang de regio waarin het schip zich bevindt. Dit wisselende menu
wordt geserveerd in het restaurant S.A.L.T Kitchen, maar er is ook de S.A.L.T
Bar, waar onder andere lokale cocktails opgediend worden. Voor wie zelf met de
lokale ingrediënten wil koken, is er het S.A.L.T Lab. Dat is een volledige
professioneel-uitgeruste keuken waar je fysiek kan leren hoe je de lokale
gerechten kan bereiden.
Naast de lokale keuken bevinden
er zich ook verschillende andere restaurants aan boord waar hoogstaande, maar
meer gekende gerechten geserveerd worden. In totaal kunnen de gasten kiezen uit
zes verschillende restaurants. Er is ook een Spa te vinden van maar liefst 770m²
aan boord. De suites aan boord variëren van de 29m² grootte Veranda Suites tot de
138m² grootte Owner Suite. 95%
van de suites aan boord hebben een eigen balkon.

EN: The extension saw the addition of new suites,
whilst the pool deck was also significantly enlarged. The restaurants were
expanded as well. Silversea recently developed the S.A.L.T. culinary programme
for on board their ships. It stands for ‘Sea And Land Taste’ and brings local
cuisine to the ship in a high-quality manner during every cruise. As a result,
the menu changes constantly depending on the region in which the ship is
sailing. This varied menu is served in the S.A.L.T. Kitchen restaurant, whilst
the S.A.L.T. Bar also serves local cocktails, amongst other things. For those
who wish to cook with local ingredients themselves, there is the S.A.L.T Lab.
This is a fully professionally equipped kitchen where you can learn first-hand
how to prepare local dishes.
In addition to the local cuisine, there are
also several other restaurants on board serving high-quality, yet more familiar
dishes. In total, guests can choose from six different restaurants. There is
also a spa covering no less than 770m² on board. The suites on board range from
the 29m² Veranda Suites to the 138m² Owner’s Suite. 95 per cent of the suites
on board have their own balcony.
