MS Oriana - Maiden Call in Antwerpen 2014

NL:

On October 24th & 25th 2014 the cruise ship MS Oriana from the English cruise line P&O Cruises was docked in Antwerp on her maiden call. Normally the 260 metres long ship would dock at the cruise terminal near the Steenplein, but with a draft of 7,9 metres Oriana lays 20 centimetres to deep in the water. Therefore the ship had to dock at Quay 228 in the Leopolddok in the port of Antwerp. From there the passengers went to the city centre by shuttle bus.

Next year Oriana celebrates her 20th birthday, but the ship is still very pleasant to sail on. She was delivered in 1995 by the German ship yard Meyer Werft. Oriana was designed for sailing world cruise but now mostly sails regular cruises. Because more than 70% of the passengers are "repeaters" - passengers who sail regularly on the ship - P&O Cruises is constantly looking for new ports to give their passengers more variety. Therefore Antwerp is a nice variation on their regular port; Zeebrugge.

Take a look at the interior photos of the ship below.

During the first arrival of a cruise ship in Antwerp the captain gets several gifts from a delegation of the Port and City of Antwerp. Captain Robert Camby was presented a book about the Red Star Line, typical Belgian pralines and of course the official plaque of the Port of Antwerp. He found it unfortunate that he wasn't able to sail the ship to the terminal and he said that in the future it could be possible to come to Antwerp with other ships from P&O Cruises.
