School Ship MS Gann in Antwerpen 2026 – Ship Visit

NL: Het Noorse schoolschip MS Gann lag van 17 tot en met 19 april 2026 voor de eerste keer aangemeerd aan het cruiseponton bij het Noorderterras. Het 108 meter lange schip bracht 140 studenten naar Antwerpen tijdens een 10-daagse schoolcruise.

EN: The Norwegian training ship MS Gann was moored at the cruise pontoon at the Noorderterras for the first time from 17 to 19 April 2026. The 108-metre-long ship brought 140 students to Antwerp during a 10-day long school cruise.

NL: MS Gann meerde op 17 april 2026 rond 10:30 aan bij het Noorderterras. Het schoolschip van de Noorse rederij ‘Skoleskipet Gann’ – vertaald ‘Het schoolschip Gann’ – bezocht Antwerpen tijdens een 10-daagse schoolcruise. De thuishaven van het schip is de stad Stavanger in het Zuidwesten van Noorwegen. Van daaruit vertrok het schip op 14/04 naar de Deense stad Esbjerg, waar het op 15/04 aangemeerd lag. De eerstvolgende haven was Antwerpen. Vanuit Antwerpen werd koers gezet naar  Great Yarmouth in Engeland, waar het schip van 20 tot 21/04 aangemeerd lag. Van daaruit keerde het schip terug naar Noorwegen om op 23/04 rond de middag terug aan te meren in Stavanger.

The training ship of the Norwegian company ‘Skoleskipet Gann’ – translated as ‘The School Ship Gann’ – visited Antwerp during a 10-day educational cruise. The ship’s home port is the city of Stavanger in south-western Norway. From there, the ship set sail on 14 April for the Danish city of Esbjerg, where it moored on 15 April. The next port of call was Antwerp. From Antwerp, the ship set course for Great Yarmouth in England, where it was moored from 20 to 21 April. From there, the ship returned to Norway, docking back in Stavanger around noon on 23 April.

Maiden Call MS Renaissance in Antwerpen 2026 – Ship Visit

NL: Het Franse cruiseschip MS Renaissance lag op 15 april 2026 voor de eerst keer aangemeerd in Antwerpen. Het 220 meter lange schip was voor het laatst te zien in de Scheldestad in 2000, toen het als MS Maasdam voor Holland America Line voer.

EN: The French cruise ship MS Renaissance docked in Antwerp for the first time on 15 April 2026. The 220-metre-long vessel was last seen in the city on the Scheldt in 2000, when it was sailing as the MS Maasdam for Holland America Line.

NL: Het eerste bezoek van MS Renaissance in Antwerpen is ook meteen het eerste bezoek van de rederij Compagnie Française de Croisières (CFC). In 2022 werd het schip overgekocht van de rederij Seajets, die het schip sinds 2020 opgelegd hadden in Griekenland nadat Holland America Line het tijdens de coronacrisis verkocht had, samen met haar zusterschepen.

De rederij CFC is in januari 2025 samengegaan met Ambassador Cruise Line en hebben samen de Ambassador Group gevormd. Hierdoor heeft MS Renaissance ook de huiskleuren van Ambassador Cruise Line overgenomen met de paarse en groene accenten. Ook de gekende grote paarse ‘A’ werd op de zijkant van het schip geschilderd.

EN: MS Renaissance’s first visit to Antwerp also marks the first visit by the cruise line Compagnie Française de Croisières (CFC). In 2022, the ship was purchased from Seajets, which had it laid up in Greece since 2020 after Holland America Line sold it, along with its sister ships, during the coronavirus crisis.

In January 2025, CFC merged with Ambassador Cruise Line to form the Ambassador Group. As a result, MS Renaissance has also adopted Ambassador Cruise Line’s corporate colours, featuring purple and green accents. The familiar large purple ‘A’ has also been painted on the side of the ship.

Nieuw Ponton Steenplein vanaf 2027 / New Pontoon Steenplein from 2027

NL: Het Ponton Van Dijck aan het Steenplein in Antwerpen wordt vernieuwd. Nog dit jaar wordt het huidige ponton verlengt om de capaciteit te verhogen, maar tegen de lente van 2027 zal het vervangen zijn door een nagelnieuwe constructie van 150 meter lang met plaats voor 4 schepen.

EN: The Pontoon Van Dijck at the Steenplein in Antwerp is getting renovated. The current pontoon will be extended later this year to increase its capacity, but by spring 2027 it will have been replaced by a brand-new 150-metre-long structure with space for four vessels.

NL: Het Ponton Van Dijck, soms ook het Flandriaponton genoemd, ligt voor het Steenplein in de Schelde. De huidige constructie ligt er sinds februari 2008. Toen bestond het ponton nog uit 3 aparte delen die de volledige inham van de Scheldekaaien aan het Steenplein vulden. In 2017 werden twee van de drie delen weggehaald omdat de inham aan het dichtslibben was, waardoor de achterste delen bij laagwater op het droge kwamen te liggen. De uitgevoerde baggerwerken haalden niet het verhoopte resultaat en moesten in de jaren ervoor jaarlijks herhaald worden.

Sind 1 juli 2017 werd het ponton ook intensief gebruikt voor openbaar vervoer over het water. Op die dag startte na 58 jaar opnieuw de ferry tussen het Steenplein en Linkeroever op, maar ook De Waterbus ging die dag officieel uit de startblokken.

Al snel werd duidelijk dat het ponton te weinig capaciteit had, want regelmatig kwamen ook nog de rondvaartboten van onder andere Flandria en Rivertours passagiers oppikken. Die werden dan telkens weggejaagd door de volgende aankomende ferry of Waterbus.

EN: The Pontoon Van Dijck, sometimes also referred to as the Flandria Pontoon, is situated off the Steenplein in the river Scheldt. The current structure has been in place since February 2008. At that time, the pontoon consisted of three separate sections that filled the entire inlet of the Scheldt quays at the Steenplein. In 2017, two of the three sections were removed because the inlet was silting up, causing the rear sections to run aground at low tide. The dredging work carried out did not achieve the desired result and had to be repeated annually in the preceding years.

Since 1 July 2017, the pontoon has also been used extensively for public transport by water. On that day, after a 58-year hiatus, the ferry service between the Steenplein and Linkeroever (the left river bank) resumed, and De Waterbus also officially launched its service.

It soon became clear that the pontoon lacked sufficient capacity, as sightseeing boats from operators such as Flandria and Rivertours were also regularly picking up passengers. These were then invariably forced to move on by the next arriving ferry or Waterbus.

MS Ambition opent Cruiseseizoen 2026 en blijft langer door olievlek / MS Ambition opens 2026 Cruise Season and stays longer due to oil spill

NL: Het Engelse cruiseschip MS Ambition kwam op 9 april 2026 als eerste zeecruiseschip voor 2026 naar Antwerpen. Haar verblijf werd ongewild met een dag verlengd door een groot olielek in het Deurganckdok in de Antwerpse haven, dat het scheepvaartverkeer op de Schelde stillegde.

EN: The British cruise ship MS Ambition arrived in Antwerp on 9 April 2026, becoming the first sea cruise ship of 2026. Her stay was inadvertently extended by a day due to a major oil spill in the Deurganckdok in the Port of Antwerp, which brought shipping traffic on the Scheldt to a standstill.

NL: Het 215 meter lange cruiseschip MS Ambition meerde op 9 april rond 08:30u aan bij Het Steen en opende daarmee het zeecruiseseizoen van 2026. Oorspronkelijk moest MS Balmoral van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines het cruiseseizoen openen op 15 en 16 februari, maar door een samenloop van omstandigheden, waaronder een recente norovirus-uitbraak aan boord, ging die aanloop niet door.

Het 11^de bezoek van MS Ambition aan Antwerpen viel samen met de vijfde verjaardag van haar Engelse rederij Ambassador Cruise Line. Het schip werd in april 2022 als tweede schip aan de vloot toegevoegd. Voordien voer het als AIDAmira voor de Duitse rederij AIDA Cruises.

Om 22:00u vertrok MS Ambition zoals gepland vanaf de Antwerpse cruiseterminal richting Zeebrugge, waar het in de ochtend verwacht werd. Kort na vertrek kwam plots de melding binnenkwam dat de Schelde ter hoogte van het Deurganckdok volledig gestremd werd doordat er een groot olielek gevonden was.

EN: The 215-metre-long cruise ship MS Ambition docked at Het Steen at around 08:30h on 9 April, marking the start of the 2026 sea cruise season. Originally, Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ MS Balmoral was due to open the cruise season on 15 and 16 February, but due to a combination of circumstances, including a recent norovirus outbreak on board, that visit was cancelled.

MS Ambition’s 11th visit to Antwerp coincided with the fifth anniversary of its British owner, Ambassador Cruise Line. The ship was added to the fleet as its second vessel in April 2022. Prior to that, it sailed as AIDAmira for the German cruise line AIDA Cruises.

At 22:00, MS Ambition departed as planned from the Antwerp cruise terminal bound for Zeebrugge, where it was expected to arrive in the morning. Shortly after departure, a report suddenly came in that the Scheldt had been completely closed off near the Deurganckdok due to a large oil spill.
