NL: Het luxecruisejacht MS Star Pride van de Amerikaanse rederij Windstar Cruises opende op zaterdag 24 mei 2025 het cruiseseizoen. Het was de eerste van 20 zeecruiseaanlopen in Antwerpen en meteen ook de eerste van drie ‘Maiden Calls’ voor dit jaar.

season on Saturday 24 May 2025. It was the first of 20 sea cruise calls in
Antwerp and immediately the first of three 'Maiden Calls' for this year.
NL: Ondanks dat de aanloop van MS Star Pride een Maiden Call is voor Antwerpen, is het toch niet de eerste keer dat het schip te zien is in Antwerpen. Al in 1999 bezocht het schip de Scheldestad onder de naam Seabourn Pride voor de Amerikaanse rederij Seabourn Cruises. Onder die naam kwam het schip vijf keer naar Antwerpen, met haar laatste aanloop in mei 2013.
Het schip kwam in
1988 in de vaart en werd gebouwd bij de Duitse werf ‘Schichau Seebeckwerft’ in
Bremerhaven. De werf, die ondertussen failliet ging, bouwde ook nog twee
zusterschepen voor Seabourn, namelijk Seabourn Spirit en Seabourn Legend. De
schepen waren alle drie 134 meter lang en hadden plaats voor 212 gasten.
In 2014 werden de
drie schepen overgenomen door de Amerikaanse rederij Windstar Cruises. In 2018
kondigde de rederij aan dat de drie zusterschepen ‘gestretched’ zouden worden.
De schepen werden hierbij in het droogdok doormidden geslepen waarna een nieuwe
bouwblok tussen de bestaande delen werd geplaatst. Het nieuwe deel was 25,6
meter lang waardoor de schepen nu 159 meter lang zijn en plaats hebben voor 312
gasten. De ombouw werd uitgevoerd bij de Italiaanse scheepswerf Fincantieri. In
oktober 2021 verliet MS Star Pride de werf met haar nieuwe tussenbouw.
Wie het schip dit
jaar gemist heeft in Antwerpen, heeft in 2026 nog een kans. Dan zou het schip nog
enkele keren langskomen. Het eerstvolgende zeecruiseschip voor 2025 is MS Clio
op 1 juni.

EN: Despite MS Star Pride's call being a
Maiden Call for Antwerp, it is not the first time the ship has been seen in
Antwerp. Back in 1999, the ship visited the city under the name Seabourn Pride
for US shipping company Seabourn Cruises. Under that name, the ship came to
Antwerp five times, with her last call in May 2013.
The ship entered
service in 1988 and was built at the German shipyard 'Schichau Seebeckwerft' in
Bremerhaven. The yard, which
has since gone bankrupt, also built two more sister ships for Seabourn, namely
Seabourn Spirit and Seabourn Legend. All three ships were 134 metres long and
accommodated 212 guests.
In 2014, the three ships were acquired by US company
Windstar Cruises. In 2018, Windstar
announced that the three sister ships would be 'stretched'. This involved
cutting the ships in half in dry dock after which a new building block was
placed between the existing sections. The new section was 25.6 metres long, making the ships now 159 metres long
and accommodating 312 guests. The conversion was carried out at Italian
shipyard Fincantieri. In October 2021, MS Star Pride left the yard with her new
intermediate superstructure.
Those who missed
the ship in Antwerp this year will have another chance in 2026. The ship would then make several more
visits. The next sea cruise ship for 2025 is MS Clio on 1 June.
