NL: Het luxecruisejacht MS SeaDream II bezocht Antwerpen op 17 mei 2026 voor de eerste keer. Het was ook de allereerste keer dat de rederij de stad bezocht. De Stad Antwerpen verwelkomde het schip met een ‘Maiden Call plaquette’ en geschenken aan de kapitein.
EN: The luxury cruise yacht MS SeaDream II
visited Antwerp for the first time on 17 May 2026. It was also the very first
time the cruise line had visited the city. The City of Antwerp welcomed the
ship with a ‘Maiden Call plaque’ and presented gifts to the captain.
Voor het eerste bezoek aan
Antwerpen kreeg kapitein Michael Macleod door een delegatie van de Stad
Antwerpen een plaquette met de naam van het schip overhandigd, alsook een boek
over Antwerpen en natuurlijk mag de Belgische chocolade ook niet ontbreken. De
kapitein liet ook weten dat hij volgend jaar Antwerpen zal bezoeken met het
zusterschip MS SeaDream I.
EN: SeaDream Yacht Club visited Antwerp for the first time on 17 May 2026. Passengers have a say in the destinations they wish to visit. In this way, the cruise line aims to add a number of new destinations to its itineraries each season. The cruise to Antwerp set sail from Bordeaux on 11 May and travelled from there via Belle-Île-en-Mer, Douarnenez, Guernsey and Sark to Antwerp. From Belgium, the voyage continued via Rotterdam, Texel, the Kiel Canal, Copenhagen and Lysekil to Oslo, where the ship arrived on 23 May.
To mark the first visit to Antwerp, Captain Michael Macleod was presented with a plaque bearing the ship’s name by a delegation from the City of Antwerp, as well as a book about Antwerp and, of course, some Belgian chocolate. The captain also announced that he would be visiting Antwerp next year with the sister ship MS SeaDream I.
Yachting
NL: SeaDream Yacht
Club promoot hun schepen niet als cruiseschepen maar als jachten. MS SeaDream I
en SeaDream II zijn beide slechts 105 meter lang en kunnen maximaal 112
passagiers aan boord nemen. Voor dat lage aantal passagiers staat wel een 95-koppige
bemanning paraat.
Het gestroomlijnde design met het
platte achterdek geeft de schepen ook de uitstraling van een jacht. Op het
achterdek is het zwembad van het schip te vinden en aan de achtersteven bevindt
zich nog een uitklapbare marina die gebruikt wordt als uitvalsbasis voor allerlei
watersportactiviteiten.
Het lage passagiersaantal zorgt,
ondanks de beperkte grootte van het schip, voor een gevoel van ruimte aan
boord. Aan boord bevind zich een ruime lounge overgaat in een ruimte met daarin
de receptie en een kleine winkel met merchandising, juwelen, parfum en
zonnebrillen.
EN: SeaDream Yacht Club does not market its
vessels as cruise ships, but as yachts. The MS SeaDream I and SeaDream II are
both just 105 metres long and can carry a maximum of 112 passengers. Despite
this small passenger capacity, a crew of 95 is on hand.
The streamlined design with the flat aft deck
also gives the ships the look of a yacht. The ship’s swimming pool is located
on the aft deck, and at the stern there is a fold-out marina that serves as a
base for all kinds of water sports activities.
Despite the ship’s limited size, the low passenger numbers create a feeling of space on board. On board there is a spacious lounge that opens onto an area housing the reception and a small shop selling merchandise, jewellery, perfume and sunglasses.
NL: Op het dek eronder bevindt zich het ‘Dining Salon’, het restaurant aan boord met haar klassieke patrijspoorten. Buiten dineren is ook mogelijk in het Topside Restaurant op dek 5. Op dek 4 kunnen de gasten ontspannen in de gezellige bibliotheek of hun geluk wagen in het casino, bestaande uit één enkele Blackjack tafel. Wie actief wil zijn kan dat in het fitnescenter aan boord of laat je verwennen in de Spa.
Het bovendek van het schip, Dek
6, heeft aan de achterkant Balinese Dream Beds rond de schouw van het schip. In
het midden van het dek bevindt zich de Top of the Yacht Bar en aan de voorkant
van het schip is het dek ingericht met ligbedden en twee kleine jacuzzi’s. Wie van
golf houdt kan zich ook uitleven in de golfsimulator.

SeaDream II
EN: On the deck below is the ‘Dining Salon’, the ship’s restaurant with its
classic portholes. Dining al fresco is also available at the Topside Restaurant
on Deck 5. On Deck 4, guests can relax in the cosy library or try their luck in
the casino, which features a single Blackjack table.
The ship’s upper deck, Deck 6, features
Balinese Dream Beds at the stern, arranged around the ship’s funnel. In the
centre of the deck is the Top of the Yacht Bar, and at the bow, the deck is
furnished with sun loungers and two small Jacuzzis. Golf enthusiasts can also
enjoy themselves in the golf simulator.

NL: MS SeaDream II
werd al in 1985 gebouwd als MS Sea Goddess II bij de Finse werf Wärtsilä
Helsinki voor de toenmalige rederij Sea Goddess Cruises. Het doel van de
schepen was om een jonger publiek warm te maken voor cruises met luxueuze boetiekschepen.
Het concept was een schot in de roos maar toch geraakte de rederij al snel in
financiële problemen.
Cunard Line besloot om de
beheersrechten van de hoog-aangeschreven schepen over te nemen. MS Sea Goddess I
& II voeren al snel voor ‘Cunard Sea Goddess’, een merk dat speciaal voor
beide schepen werd ontworpen. In 1998 veranderde de schepen hun naam in Seabourn
Goddess I & II nadat de Carnival Coorperation Cunard en Seabourn had gebundeld.
Als je goed kijkt op de boeg van het schip kan je vandaag nog steeds restanten
zien van het woord ‘Seabourn’.
In 2001 werden beide schepen dan
uiteindelijk overgenomen door SeaDream Yacht Club. De rederij werd opgericht
door Atle Brynestad. Hij was één van de oprichters van Seabourn Cruise Line.
Het is dus niet zo opmerkelijk dat beide schepen door Seabourn overgedragen
werden. In 2026 viert SeaDream Yacht Club hun 25ste verjaardag.
Ondanks de hoge leeftijd van de
schepen zijn ze nog perfect onderhouden en is het niet merkbaar dat je aan
boord stapt van een schip van meer dan 40 jaar oud. In 2023/2024 kreeg Seadream
II nog een grondige opknapbeurt. Door zulk onderhoud bevindt de rederij zich
nog steeds in de absolute top van de luxecruises.
EN: MS SeaDream II was originally built in 1985 as
MS Sea Goddess II at the Finnish shipyard Wärtsilä Helsinki for the
then-shipowner Sea Goddess Cruises. The aim of the ships was to attract a
younger audience to cruise on luxurious boutique vessels. The concept was a
huge success, yet the company soon ran into financial difficulties.
Cunard Line decided to take over the management
rights of the highly acclaimed ships. MS Sea Goddess I & II soon sailed
under the name ‘Cunard Sea Goddess’, a brand created specifically for both
ships. In 1998, the ships changed their names to Seabourn Goddess I & II,
after the Carnival Corporation merged Cunard and Seabourn. If you look closely
at the bow of the ship, you can still see remnants of the word ‘Seabourn’
today.
In 2001, both ships were eventually acquired by
SeaDream Yacht Club. The shipping company was founded by Atle Brynestad. He was
one of the founders of Seabourn Cruise Line. It is therefore not surprising
that both ships were transferred from Seabourn. In 2026, SeaDream Yacht Club
will celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Despite the ships’ advanced age, they are still
perfectly maintained, and you wouldn’t notice that you’re boarding a ship over
40 years old. In 2023/2024, the Seadream II underwent a thorough refurbishment.
Thanks to such maintenance, the shipping company remains at the very top of the
luxury cruise market.
