Cruiseschepen in Antwerpen: Aan boord van MS Boudicca / On board MS Boudicca

NL: Het cruiseschip MS Boudicca van de Britse rederij Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines bezocht Antwerpen op 27 en 28 maart 2017. Het was vier jaar geleden dat het schip nog in de Scheldestad lag. Neem hieronder een kijkje aan boord.

EN: The cruise ship MS Boudicca of the British company Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines visited Antwerp on 27 and 28 March 2017. It had been four years since the ship last visited the city. Below you can take a look on board the ship.

NL: Het cruiseschip MS Boudicca lag op maandag 27 en dinsdag 28 maart 2017 aangemeerd in Antwerpen. De laatste keer dat het schip de stad bezocht was in 2013. Toen was het schip wel nog volledig wit. In 2015 besliste de rederij Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines om al hun schepen te herschilderen met een donkergrijze romp en een rode lijn.

EN: The cruise ship MS Boudicca was docked in Antwerp on Monday 27th and Tuesday 28 March 2017. The last time the ship visited the city was in 2013. Back then the ship was still completely white. In 2015 Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines decided to change the colour scheme of their ships and repainted them all with a dark grey hull and a red stripe.

NL: MS Boudicca is het tweede oudste schip van de rederij en werd in 1973 gebouwd als MS Royal Viking Sky voor de toenmalige Noorse rederij Royal Viking Line. Onder die naam heeft het schip ook nog in Antwerpen gelegen in 1988. Ondertussen zit het 44 jaar oude schip al aan zijn tiende naam. Maar desondanks de hoge ouderdom is alles aan boord nog piekfijn in orde. Om het interieur mee te laten gaan met de tijd werd het schip eind 2015 nog opnieuw gemeubileerd tijdens een uitgebreid werfbezoek.

EN: MS Boudicca is the second oldest ship of the fleet and was built in 1973 as MS Royal Viking Sky for the now defunct Norwegian company Royal Viking Line. With that name the ship also visited Antwerp back in 1988. Meanwhile the 44 year old ship is now displaying its tenth name. But despite the high age everything on board still looks in perfect condition. To make this possible the ship was refurbished at the end of 2015 during a long visit to the shipyard.

NL: Het lounge deck is het belangrijkste dek van het schip. Hier bevinden zich de drie restaurants die allemaal met elkaar verbonden zijn. Op dit dek bevindt zich ook de Neptune Lounge. Hier worden ’s avonds de grotere voorstelling gedaan. Achteraan op het dek bevindt zich in de openlucht het grote zwembad met daarrond twee jacuzzi’s en nog een kleiner zwembad.

EN: The Lounge Deck is the most important deck on board the ship. Here the three restaurants can be found, which are all connected to each other. The deck also houses the Neptune Lounge. Here the larger shows are performed during the evenings. On the aft deck you can find a large swimming pool in the open air, together with two jacuzzis and a second, smaller pool.

NL: Als we een dek naar boven gaan vinden we de Lido Lounge. Deze lounge met bar heeft ook tafels buiten staan met zicht op het zwembad beneden. Op hetzelfde dek bevindt zich ook nog The Bookmark Café. In deze gezellig lounge vindt je ook de bibliotheek van het schip. Aansluitende vind je hier ook een ruimte om gezelschapsspellen te spelen.

EN: If we go up one deck we find the Lido Lounge. This lounge with bar also has outside tables with a beautiful view of the swimming pool below. On the same deck there is also The Bookmark Café. In this cosy lounge you also find the ship’s library and next to that there is also the card room.

NL: Twee dekken daarboven is er achteraan het schip nog een zwembad met een gezellige zithoek ernaast. Vooraan op dat dek bevindt zich de observation louge, waar je een prachtig zicht hebt op de omgeving. Wie fit wil blijven tijdens de cruise kan één dek hoger gaan sporten in de fitness.

EN: Two decks up you can find another pool at the back of the ship with a beautiful outdoor lounge and bar around it. At the front of the ship there is the observation lounge where you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. Those who want to stay fit can do that in the fitness just one deck up.

Zichterbaar Noors toets / Visible Norwegian heritage

NL: Net zoals op de andere schepen van Fred. Olsen hangt er overal waar je kunst aan boord. Dat is deel van de privécollectie van de Olsen’s. Omdat zij van Noorse afkomst zijn is het ook niet verwonderlijk dat dat te merken is in de collectie. In de Morning Light Pub is dat het beste te merken. Daar hang het vol met schilderen van oude Noorse schepen geschilderd op glas. Er is ook een scheepsmodel te vinden van één van hun oude schepen en er hangt ook een schilderij van de drie oprichters van de rederij.

EN: Just like on board the other ships of Fred. Olsen everywhere you look there is art. These artworks are part of the Olsen’s private collection. Because they are Norwegian it’s no surprise that the country is well represented in the collection. In the Morning Light Pub this is the most noticeable. There, several glass paintings of Norwegian ships are on display. There is also a model of one of the old ships of Fred. Olsen that can be found there. And the original founders of the company can be found on a painting in the room.
