Oceania's MS Marina & MS Insignia in Antwerpen 2016

NL: De Amerikaanse luxecruiserederij Oceania Cruises bezocht Antwerpen dit jaar met twee van hun schepen. Namelijk MS Insignia en MS Marina. Het was van 2010 geleden dat de rederij de stad nog had bezocht.

MS Marina draagt dit jaar de titel van het grootste schip van het seizoen. Met 238 meter en 66.000 Bruttoton (BRT) stak ze de Crystal Symphony voorbij die eveneens 238 meter lang is maar slechts 51.000 BRT groot is. MS Marina bezocht Antwerpen dit jaar twee keer en dat lokte telkens vele kijklustigen naar de kaaien om het imposante gevaarte van dichtbij te bekijken.

MS Marina werd in 2010 gebouwd bij de scheepswerf Fincantieri in Italië en was het eerste van twee identieke schepen die voor Oceania Cruises gebouwd werden. Twee jaar later kwam het zusterschip MS Riviera in de vaart.

EN: The American luxury cruise line Oceania Cruises visited Antwerp this year with two of their ships; MS Insignia and MS Marina. The last time the company visited the city was in 2010.

This year MS Marina holds the record of the largest ship of the season. With 238 metres and 66.000 Brutto tons (BRT) she surpassed Crystal Symphony, who is also 238 metres long but only has 51.000 BRT. MS Marina made two visits to Antwerp this year and both times the ship did not go unnoticed by the citizens. Hundreds of people came to see the imposing ship up-close.

MS Marina was built in 2010 at the shipyard Fincatieri in Italy and was the first of two identical sister ships built for Oceania Cruises. Two years later her sister ship MS Riviera was launched.

NL: Naast MS Marina bezocht op 8 augustus ook MS Insignia Antwerpen. Het 181 meter lange schip lag voor de tweede keer in de stad, na haar eerste aanloop in 2010. De Insignia werd in 1998 gebouwd als R1 voor het vroeger Renaissance Cruises. Het was het eerste van 8 identieke schepen. Nadat Renaissance Cruises failliet ging werden de schepen verdeeld onder verschillende rederijen. Vier van de acht schepen maken momenteel deel uit van de vloot van Oceania Cruises.

EN: Apart from MS Marina Antwerp also got a visit of MS Insignia on August 8th. The 181 metres long ship visited Antwerp for the second time after her maiden call in 2010. Insignia was built in 1998 as R1 for Renaissance Cruises. She was the first of 8 identical ships. When Renaissance Cruises went defunct the ships were divided among several cruise lines. At the moment 4 out of the 8 vessels are part of the fleet of Oceania Cruises.

Scheepsbezoek MS Braemar / Ship Visit MS Braemar

NL: Het cruiseschip MS Braemar van de Engelse rederij Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines lag op woensdag en donderdag aangemeerd in de Antwerpse binnenstad. Het was het tweede cruiseschip voor dit jaar. Neem een kijkje aan boord van de Braemar.

EN: The cruise ship MS Braemar of the UK-based company Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines was docked in the centre of Antwerp on Wednesday and Thursday. It was the second ship to visit the city this year. Take a look on board the Braemar.

NL: Het cruiseschip MS Braemar lag op 13 en 14 april 2016 in Antwerpen. Het schip maakt deel uit van de vloot van de Engelse rederij Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines en werd genoemd naar het gelijknamige kasteel in Schotland.

Het was niet de eerste keer dat de Braemar naar Antwerpen kwam. Vorig jaar opende het schip nog het cruiseseizoen, maar dit jaar was het een heel ander zicht. Fred. Olsen besloot namelijk eind vorig jaar om hun volledige vloot om te schilderen. Zo varen hun vier schepen niet langer rond met een volledig witte romp, maar hebben ze nu een donkergrijze romp met een rode lijn.

EN: On April 13th and 14th 2016 the cruise ship Braemar was berthed in Antwerp. The ship is part of the fleet of the UK-based company Fred. Olsen Cruises Lines and was named after the namesake castle in Scotland.

It was not the first time that Braemar visited Antwerp. Last year she even opened the cruise season, but this year it was a different sight because at the end of last year Fred. Olsen decided to repaint their complete fleet. Now their four ships no longer sail around in all white, but now do so with a dark grey hull with a red stripe. 

NL: De Braemar werd gebouwd in 1993 en is het nieuwste schip uit de vloot. In 2001 werd het door Fred. Olsen opgekocht. Toen had het schip nog een lengte van 163 meter. In 2008 besloot de rederij het schip met 32 meter te verlengen naar 195 meter. Om dat te doen werd de Braemar in het Duitse Hamburg doormidden gesneden en werd het nieuwe stuk ertussen geplaatst. Dat proces noemt men 'stretching' en gebeurt nog regelmatig. Ook de Balmoral, een ander schip uit de vloot, heeft hetzelfde proces ondergaan.

EN: The Braemar was built in 1993 and is the newest ship in the fleet. It was bought by Fred. Olsen in 2001. Back then the ship still had a length of 163 metres. In 2008 the company decided to add 32 metres to the ship to lengthen it to 195 metres. To do so the Braemar went to Hamburg in Germany and was cut in two. The new section was placed in between. This process is called 'stretching' and happens regularly. The Balmoral, another ship of the fleet, underwent the same process. 

Warm, ruim interieur / Warm, spacious interior

NL: De Braemar mag dan wel met haar 23 jaar al iets ouder zijn, toch is daarvan binnenin niet veel te merken. Het is een zeer kleurrijk schip met een zeer vriendelijke bemanning. De ruime lounges, restaurants en de verschillende scheepsmodellen die doorheen het schip te vinden zijn, geven het schip een huiselijk gevoel. Aan boord bevindt zich ook een beauty center waar je een waaier aan behandelingen kan laten doen, en een grote fitnessruimte met uitzicht op zee. De showlounge op de Braemar is groot, maar vooral heel breed omdat ze, in tegenstelling tot bijna alle andere cruiseschepen, zijwaarts is gebouwd in het schip. 

EN: The Braemar may already be somewhat older with its 23 years, but on the inside there is little that reminds you of that.  The ship is very colourful and has a very friendly crew. The spacious lounges, restaurants and the different ship models that can be found throughout the ship give it a cosy atmosphere. On board there is also a beauty centre that offers a wide range of treatments, and a large fitness with sea view. The showlounge on board Braemar is large, but particularly wide because, unlike almost every other cruise ship, it has been built sidewards into the ship.

NL: Op het bovendek bevinden zich twee zwembaden en twee jacuzzi's. Daar rond is er veel plaats voorzien voor ligstoelen en er is zelfs een deel van het dek waar je rond de bar in comfortabele zetels kan genieten van een drankje. De Braemar heeft ook een promenadedek dat rond het volledige schip loopt, wat handig is om te joggen of om gewoon rond het schip te stappen. Uniek is dat je bij dit schip tot op het puntje van de boeg kan wandelen. Op de boeg zelf kan ook shuffleboard gespeeld worden.

EN: On the upper deck you can find two swimming pools and two Jacuzzis. Around those there is a lot a space for deck chairs and there is even a part of the deck near the bar where you can enjoy your drink in comfortable seats. The Braemar also has a promenade deck that circles the whole way around the ship, which is nice if you like to jog or just walk around the ship. Unique on this ship is that you walk to the very tip of the bow. On the bow it is also possible to play shuffleboard.

Overal kunst / Art everywhere

NL: Overal doorheen het schip bevinden zich ook kunstwerken uit de privécollectie van de eigenaars van de vloot. In de traphallen en de lounges hangen prachtige schilderijen van oude schepen van Fred. Olsen. Veel schilderijen en beelden zijn ook afkomstig uit vroegere schepen. De kunstwerken werden overgebracht naar de andere schepen als ze uit dienst gingen. Zo werden zelfs de boegbeelden van sommige schepen bijgehouden en aan boord ten toon gesteld. Op de Braemar zijn er zo twee te vinden: één op het achterdek en één op het bovendek onder de mast.

EN: Everywhere throughout the ship you can find art from the private collection of the owners of the fleet. The stairwells and lounges are filled with beautiful paintings from the old ships of Fred. Olsen. Many of the paintings and sculptures come from former ships. The artworks were transfered to the newer ships when the older ones went out of service. Even the bow sculptures of some of the ships have been preserved and are now displayed on board the current ships in the fleet. On Braemar two of those sculptures can be found: one on the aft deck and one on the top deck below the mast.

NL: De Braemar is een heel aangenaam, rustig schip met veel ruimte. Het schip is perfect voor zij die op zoek zijn naar een rustige cruise zonder al te veel "glitter and glamour".

Balmoral opent cruiseseizoen 2016 in Antwerpen / Balmoral opens cruise season 2016 in Antwerp

NL: Het 218 meter lange cruiseschip MS Balmoral van de Engelse rederij Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines meerde op zaterdag 19 maart opnieuw aan in Antwerpen. Het schip had dit jaar opnieuw de eer om het cruiseseizoen op gang te trekken. Dit jaar was het echter een heel ander zicht dan vorig jaar. Fred. Olsen herschilderde eind vorig jaar hun volledige vloot met een donkergrijze romp met rode streep. Toen het schip vorig jaar in december in Antwerpen lag had men al grotendeels de rode streep geschilderd. Nu waren de schilderwerken volledig afgewerkt.

Het volgende cruiseschip dat naar Antwerpen komt, de MS Braemar van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, zal ook in de nieuwe keuren te zien zijn. Dat schip komt naar de stad op 13 & 14 april.

EN: On Saturday March 19th the 218 metres long cruise ship MS Balmoral of the English company Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines docked again in Antwerp. This year the ship had once again the honour to open the cruise season, but it was a very different sight. At the end of last year Fred. Olsen repainted their complete fleet with a dark grey hull and a red stripe. When the ship was docked in Antwerp last December it already had most of its red stripe painted on. Now the paintworks are finished.

The next cruise ship that will come to Antwerp is the MS Braemar of Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. The ship will also have the new colour scheme. Braemar will visit the city on April 13th & 14th.

Cruiseseizoen 2016 officieel geopend / Cruise season 2016 officially opened

NL: Aan boord van het riviercruiseschip River Rhapsody werd donderdag het nieuwe cruiseseizoen voor Antwerpen officieel voorgesteld en geopend door Schepen van Toerisme Koen Kennis. Ook dit jaar mag de stad verschillende speciale schepen verwelkomen aan de Scheldekaaien.

EN: On Thursday the new cruise season of Antwerp was officially presented and opened by the Chairman of Tourism Koen Kennis on board the river cruise ships Rover Rhapsody. This year the city can once again welcome several special vessels at the Scheldt quays.

NL: Het nieuwe cruiseseizoen van Antwerpen is officieel van start gegaan. Schepen van Toerisme Koen Kennis lichtte aan boord van het riviercruiseschip River Rhapsody toe welke schepen er verwachten worden in de stad.

Ook in 2016 blijft Antwerpen een populaire cruisebestemming. Dit jaar zullen ongeveer 105.000 passagiers de stad een bezoek brengen. Dat aantal wordt verdeeld over maarliefst 612 rivier- en 25 zeecruiseschepen en er kunnen nog altijd aanlopen bijkomen in de loop van het jaar.

Het eerste zeecruiseschip meert al deze zaterdag aan in Antwerpen. De 218 meter lange MS Balmoral zal rond één uur 's middags aankomen aan het Zuiderterras en vertrekt opnieuw om elf uur 's avonds. Sinds eind vorig jaar is het schip ook niet meer volledig wit maar heeft het een donker grijze romp gekregen.

EN: The new cruise season has officially started. Chairman of Tourism Koen Kennis amplified on the ships that will visit the city this year.

In 2016 Antwerp stays a popular cruise destination. This year around 105.000 passengers will pay a visit to the city. This number is spread out over 612 river- and 25 sea cruise ships and it is still possible that extra calls will be added throughout the year.

The first sea cruise ship will already dock in Antwerp this Saturday. The 218 metres long MS Balmoral will arrive at the cruise terminal around 1p.m. and will leave the city again at 11p.m. Since the end of last year the ship is no longer completely white but now has a dark grey hull. 

Groot aantal first calls / Large number of first calls

NL: Dit jaar zullen niet minder dan 6 zeecruiseschepen voor de eerste keer naar Antwerpen komen. Daarbij zit ook het grootste schip voor dit jaar, de 239 meter lange Marina. Het luxueuze gevaarte zal halfweg juni voor de eerste van twee aanlopen aan het Zuiderterras aanmeren. Een ander opvallen schip is de National Geographic Orion. Dit kleine expeditieschip zal vlak voor de Tall Ships Races in Antwerpen liggen. De zeilwedstrijd zal dit jaar plaatsvinden van 7 tot 10 juli. Antwerpen is voor deze editie de starthaven.

EN: This year no less than 6 sea cruise ships will visit Antwerp for the first time. These also include the largest ship of the season, the 239 metres long MS Marina. The luxurious vessel will visit for the first of two calls halfway through June. Another noticeable ship is the National Geographic Orion. This small expedition cruise ship will visit right before The Tall Ships Races. This will take place from the 7th until the 10th of July. Antwerp will be the starting point of this year's races.

Dynamische havenstad / Dynamic port city

NL: "Dit jaar bewijzen de Tall Ships Races en het grote aantal nieuwe cruises nog maar eens dat Antwerpen een dynamische havenstad is", zegt Koen Kennis. De stad blijft verder inspelen op de cruiseschepen en gaat Antwerpen actief promoten in het buitenland. De luxecruiseschepen zijn onder meer een belangrijk segment omdat ze door hun kleinere grootte gemakkelijk tot in de binnenstad kunnen geraken.

EN: "This year The Tall Ships Races and the large number of new cruises proves once again that Antwerp is a dynamic port city", says Koen Kennis. The city keeps actively promoting Antwerp as a cruise destination abroad. An important segment are the luxury cruises because due to their smaller size they can easily reach the city centre.

Officiële cruiselijst 2016 / Official cruise list 2016

NL: Cruise Port Antwerp heeft de officiële lijst met cruiseaanlopen voor 2016 bekend gemaakt. Met 23 aanlopen is er een lichte stijging ten opzichte van vorig jaar maar het aantal verschillende schepen ligt wel veel hoger dit jaar. In totaal zullen maarliefst 19 verschillende cruiseschepen aanmeren in de Scheldestad.

EN: Cruise Port Antwerp has released the official list of cruise calls for 2016. With 23 calls there is a slight rise in comparison to last year's season but the number of different ships has risen significantly. Not less than 19 different cruise ships will visit in the city this year.

NL: Het seizoen start dit jaar op 19 maart met de komst van een vaste bezoeker. Namelijk de MS Balmoral van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. Als het schip nu terug in Antwerpen zal liggen zal het echter een compleet ander zicht zijn. Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines besloot eind vorig jaar hun volledige vloot om te schilderen met een donkergrijze romp met een rode streep. Ook de Braemar die op 13 en 14 april naar de stad komt heeft het nieuwe kleurenschema.

Tijdens de maand mei verwacht Antwerpen 5 cruiseschepen. De twee meest opvallende bezoekers zijn de Ocean Majesty en The World. Voor de klassieke Ocean Majesty is het de maiden call in Antwerpen. The World, het enige cruiseschip ter wereld waarop men een appartement kan kopen en de wereld kan rondreizen, zal voor de derde keer een paar dagen in de stad aanmeren. Het is al van 2011 geleden dat het schip in Antwerpen lag.

In juni komen er maar twee schepen naar de stad, maar het zijn wel de twee grootste schepen voor 2016. Na twaalf jaar zal de 238 meter lange Crystal Symphony terug naar Antwerpen komen. Het is tien jaar geleden dat er nog een schip van Crystal Cruises in de stad lag. Op 17 juni meert het grootste schip voor het jaar aan. De Marina van Oceania Cruises is 239 meter en komt voor de allereerste keer naar Antwerpen.

Tijdens de zomermaanden komen er dit jaar ook verschillende schepen langs. Begin juli komt het kleine expeditiecruiseschip National Geographic Orion voor de eerste keer naar Antwerpen. Vlak daarna zal Antwerpen in de ban zijn van de The Tall Ships Races, die vertrekt in de stad. Veder meren de Silver Wind van Silversea en de Insignia en Marina van Oceania Cruises opnieuw aan in de stad. Ook de Prinsendam van Holland America Line bezoekt de Scheldestad opnieuw.

Ook in het najaar staan er nog een hele hoop schepen op het programma. Daarbij zitten onder meer nog 3 maiden calls. Zo zal de Azamara Quest voor het eerst naar de stad komen. Ook de Artania van Phoenix Reisen en Hamburg van Plantours Kreuzfahrten zullen voor het eerst koers zetten op onze stad.

Om het jaar af te sluiten zullen er opnieuw een paar kerstcruises naar Antwerpen komen. Momenteel zal Magellan drie keer naar Antwerpen komen en de mogelijkheid bestaat nog dat ook de cruiseferry Pont-Aven nog toegevoegd zal worden aan de lijst.

EN: The cruise season will start on the 19th of March with a regular visitor; the MS Balmoral from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines. But when the ship will be back in Antwerp it will be a completely different sight this year. Near the end of last year Fred. On June 17th the largest ship of the year will berth at the terminal. The Marina from Oceania Cruises has a length of 239 metres and will make her maiden call in Antwerp.

This year several ships will also visit the city during the summer months. At the beginning of July the small expedition cruise ships National Geographic Orion will come to Antwerp for the first time. Right after Antwerp will be the decor of The Tall Ships Races, who have their starting point in the city. Further, the Silver Wind from Silversea and the Insignia and Marina from Oceania Cruises will visit Antwerp again. The Prinsendam will also make an appearance in the city.

Also in fall the city is to expect several ships. Three of those ships are maiden calls. The Azamara Quest will come to the city for the first time. The Artania from Phoenix Reisen and the Hamburg from Plantours Kreuzfahrten are the other two maiden calls.

To wrap up the year there are again a few Christmas cruises planned to Antwerp. At the moment Magellan is scheduled to make three calls and there is still a chance that the cruise-ferry Pont-Aven will be added to the list.
