Seabourn Quest in Antwerpen 2015

Het luxecruisejacht Seabourn Quest lag op 25 mei 2015 opnieuw aangemeerd in Antwerpen. Vorig jaar maakte het schip van de Amerikaanse rederij Seabourn haar maiden call in de Scheldestad.

Seabourn Quest werd in 2011 gebouwd bij de Italiaanse werf T. Mariotti in Genua. Het is het 3de schip uit de Seabourn Odyssey-klasse. De andere schepen uit de klasse zijn de Seabourn Odyssey en Seabourn Sojourn. In 2016 en 2018 zullen nog twee nieuwe schepen toegevoegd worden aan de vloot: Seabourn Encore en Seabourn Ovation. Deze schepen zullen kleine verschillen hebben met de huidige schepen.

Seabourn Quest kan 450 passagiers vervoeren en heeft een 335-koppige bemanning aan boord. Ook volgend jaar zal het schip opnieuw naar Antwerpen komen.

On 25th of May 2015 the luxury cruise yacht Seabourn Quest was docked in Antwerp again. Last year the ship from the American cruise line Seabourn made her maiden call in the city.

Seabourn Quest was built in 2011 at the Italian ship yard T. Mariotti in Genua. It is the 3th ship of the Seabourn  Odyssey-class; the other two ship are Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Sojourn. In 2016 & 2018 two new ships will join the fleet: Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Ovation. These ships will have a slightly different design.

Seabourn Quest can accommodate 450 passengers can has a crew of 335 men. Next year the ship will once again visit Antwerp.

Europa 2 in Antwerpen 2015 - Scheepsbezoek/Ship visit

NL: Het ultraluxueuze cruiseschip EUROPA 2 van de Duitse rederij Hapag-Lloyd Cruises meerde op dinsdag 28 april opnieuw aan in Antwerpen. Het schip werd door de Berlitz Cruise Guide for Cruising and Cruise Ships verkozen tot het beste cruiseschip ter wereld en kreeg daarbij meer dan 5 sterren toegekend.

EN: On Tuesday 28 April the ultra luxurious cruise ship EUROPA 2 from the German cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was once again docked in Antwerp. The ship was chosen the best cruise ship in the world by the Berlitz Cruise Guide for Cruising and Cruise Ships and was awarded more than 5 stars.

NL: Het vlaggenschip van de Duitse luxe-cruiserederij Hapag-Lloyd Cruises lag op 28 april opnieuw aangemeerd in Antwerpen. Het 225 meter lange schip kwam ook in 2013 en 2014 reeds naar Antwerpen. In 2013 kwam het schip zelfs naar Antwerpen voor dat het gedoopt was. De EUROPA 2 doet naast Antwerpen ook de haven van Gent aan.

EN: On 28 April the flag ship of the German luxury cruise line Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was once again dock in Antwerp. The 225 metres long ship also visited Antwerp in 2013 and 2014. In 2013 the ship even called at Antwerp before it was christened. Apart from Antwerp the EUROPA 2 will also visit the port of Ghent during the cruise.

Opknapbeurt / Refurbishment

NL: Van 11 tot 24 april lag het de Europa 2 in het droogdok van de scheepswerf Blohm+Voss in het Duitse Hamburg. Daar onderging het schip een grondige opknapbeurt. Zo werd de romp van het schip volledig schoon gemaakt. Boven de waterlijn werd waar nodig nieuwe verf aangebracht. Maar ook binnenin is er heel wat veranderd.

Om hun passagiers steeds het beste van het beste te kunnen presenteren stuurt Hapag-Lloyd hun schepen om de twee jaar in de werf. Vele andere rederijen doen dat meestal maar na vijf jaar. Op die manier kan Hapag-Lloyd ook inspelen op de noden van de passagiers en aanpassingen maken waar nodig. Zo werd er nu onder meer een volledige bar opnieuw gedecoreerd zo dat ze de passagiers beter zou aanspreken. In die bar, de Sansibar, werd ook een kroonluchter gehangen die bestaat uit 1000 wijnflessen.  In totaal werd er ook 4500m² tapijt vervangen en 2000 liter verf aangebracht op het schip.

EN: From 11 until 24 April the Europa 2 was docked in the ship yard of Blohm+Voss in the city of Hamburg, Germany. There the ship got an extensive refit. The hull of the ship was completely cleaned and above the water line paint was applied where needed. But not only the exterior, but also the interior underwent changes.

To be able to present their passengers the best of the best Hapag-Lloyd sends their ships into dry dock every two years. Many other cruise lines only do it every five years. By doing that Hapag-Lloyd can also go along with the needs of the passengers and can make changes where required. One of the changes was the redecoration of the Sansibar so that it would appeal better to the passengers. The bar also got a chandelier made of 1000 wine bottles. During the refit a total of 4500m² carpet has been replaced and 2000 litres paint has been applied to the ship.

Luxueus interieur / Luxurious interior

NL: Dankzij een reguliere passagier bij Hapag-Lloyd Cruises zijn we aan boord geraakt van het schip om eens rond te kijken.

De EUROPA 2 biedt het meeste plaats aan boord per passagier van alle cruiseschepen die momenteel rondvaren. Dit geeft het schip een heel ruime en aangename indruk. Het interieur is hedendaags en gebruikt veel lichte tinten.

Overal doorheen het schip komt men kunst tegen. In totaal hangen er niet minder dan 890 kunstwerken aan boord van de Europa 2. Op het bovendek bevindt zich een 15 meter lang zwembad dat volledig kan afgeschermd worden van de buitenlucht door een schuifbaar glazen dak. Hierdoor is het ook bij slecht of koud weer mogelijk om het zwembad op een aangename manier te gebruiken.

Op het schip zijn geen gewone hutten te vinden, maar enkel suites; 251 in totaal. De grootte van de suites gaat van 27m² tot 114m². Bij de hogere suiteklasse krijgen de passagiers ook een eigen butler ter beschikking.

In totaal staan er meer dan 370 bemanningsleden klaar om de 516 passagiers een onvergetelijke cruise te bezorgen.

EUROPA 2 offers the most space per passenger on board of all cruise ships that are currently sailing. This gives the ship a very spacious and pleasant atmosphere.The interior is contemporary and uses many light colours.

Everywhere throughout the ship you stumble upon art. A total of 890 art pieces are on display on board the Europa 2. On the upper deck the pool is located. The pool has a length of 15 metres and can be closed off from the outside by a retractable glass roof. That way the pool can also be used by cold or bad weather.

On board the ship there are no normal cabins but only suites. 251 in total. The size of the suites vary from 27m² to 114m². People who book a suite of a high class will be presented with their own private butler.

There are a total of 370 crew members that are always ready to pamper the 516 passengers and give them an unforgettable cruise.

NL: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is een vaste klant in de Scheldestad. Vorig jaar nog kwam de rederij met hun volledige vloot naar Antwerpen. Dit jaar brengen twee van hun vier schepen een bezoek aan de stad: de Europa en de Europa 2.

Dit jaar organiseert Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, samen met de Stad Antwerpen, het culinaire evenement Europa's Beste aan boord van de Europa, het zusterschip van de Europa 2. Het evenement vindt al voor de 6de keer plaats in Antwerpen. Geen enkele andere stad heeft het ooit meer georganiseerd. Ook dit jaar zal er opnieuw een Belgische sterrenchef aan boord zijn om de passagiers de beste gerechten voor te schotelen. Namelijk Stéphane Buyens  van Hostellerie Le Fox in De Panne.

EN: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises is a regular customer in the city. Last year the cruise line sent their complete fleet to Antwerp. This year two of their four ships will visit the city: Europa and Europa 2.

This year Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, together with the city of Antwerp, once again organises the culinary event Europa's Beste on board their Europa, the sister ship of the Europa 2. The evenement will take place in Antwerp for the 6th time already. No other city has hosted the event more times. This year there is once again a Belgian star chef on board, namely  Stéphane Buyens  from Hostellerie Le Fox in De Panne.

Opening cruiseseizoen/cruise season 2015 - MS Braemar

Het Engelse cruiseschip Braemar van Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines opende op 10 april het cruiseseizoen voor 2015. In totaal staan er 21 cruiseaanlopen gepland voor dit seizoen. De Braemar heeft een lengte van 195 meter en kan 977 passagiers aan boord nemen.

Het schip werd in 1993 gebouwd als 'Crown Dynasty' voor Crown Cruise Line. Later werd het schip doorverkocht aan andere rederijen. In 2001 kocht Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines het schip en doopte het tot Braemar. Toen had het schip een lengte van 163 meter.

In 2008 ging het schip in het droogdok en werd het in twee gezaagd. Er werd daarna een stuk van 32 meter toegevoegd waardoor het schip een lengte van 195 meter kreeg.

Het eerstvolgende schip zal de ultraluxueuze Europa 2 zijn van Hapag-Lloyd Cruises op 28 april.

On April 10 the English cruise ship Braemar from Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines opened the cruise season of 2015. This year a total of 21 cruise calls are planned. Braemar has a length of 195 metres and can accommodate 977 passengers.

Website Update April 2015

Vanaf 01 april 2015 staat er een nieuwe versie van de website online. Het ziet er misschien niet zo uit maar het is een volledig nieuwe website. De voorbije 2 maanden hebben we de website herbouwd op een nieuw platform. Dat geeft ons de mogelijkheid om meer foto's online te zetten.

De website blijft beschikbaar op dezelfde adressen. Namelijk:

Bekijk hieronder wat er er allemaal veranderd is aan de website:

- Op de pagina's van de individuele cruiseseizoenen staat nu per schip 1 foto. Wel kan u nu onder de foto doorklikken naar het fotoalbum van het schip. Daar kan u alle foto's bekijken van de verschillende aanlopen van het schip doorheen de jaren.

- Op de Homepagina werd de countdownklok vervangen door de datum en aankomst- en vertrekuren van het schip. U kan daar nu ook rechtstreeks doorklikken naar de lijst met cruiseaanlopen voor dat jaar.

- Het logo werd op de Engelstalige pagina's vertaald.

- Op de pagina over de aanlegplaats/cruise terminal werd een gedeelte toegevoegd over de aanlegplaats in de Haven van Antwerpen.

- De pagina scheepsalfabet werd vervangen door de pagina Fotoalbums. Daar kan u nu alfabetisch alle cruiseschepen vinden die ooit in Antwerpen lagen en u kan direct doorklikken naar de foto's van de schepen. In totaal kan u zoeken tussen meer dan 2200 foto's.

- Ook de pagina Fotospecials werd geïntegreerd in de nieuwe pagina Fotoalbums. U kan alle interieurfoto's en andere maritieme gebeurtenissen terugvinden aan de rechter kant van de pagina onder 'Interieur' en 'Andere'.

- Op de pagina Webcam werd een derde Schelde-webcam toegevoegd.

- De pagina Downloads werd verwijderd.

- Op de pagina Contact werden enkele FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) geplaatst.

- De pagina 'Riviercruiseschepen in Antwerpen' werd geïntegreerd in de pagina 'Fotoalbums'.

- De nieuwe pagina 'Nieuws' werd toegevoegd. Deze pagina staat in contact met de Blog. Op de pagina kan u al het nieuws vinden van de cruiseschepen in Antwerpen. U kan ook gemakkelijk zoeken in alle oude nieuwsberichten. De blog zelf werd, zoals u kan zien, ook aangepast in het zelfde design als de website.

- Op de Homepagina kan u ook doorklikken naar een pagina met alle informatie over de 'Tall Ships Races' die in 2016 opnieuw naar Antwerpen komen.

We hopen dat deze aanpassingen een verbetering zijn aan de website. Ook in de toekomst blijven we zoeken naar manieren om de website te verbeteren.

- On the English pages the logo has been translated.

- On the page about the berth place/cruise terminal we added a part about the berth in the docks of the Port of Antwerp.

- The page Ship Alphabet has been replaced by the page Photo Albums. There you can find all the cruise ships that have ever been in Antwerp in alphabetical order and you can click through to the photos of the ships. You can search between over 2200 photos.

- De page Photo Specials has also been integrated in the page Photo Albums. You can find all the interior photos and other maritime events on the right side of the page under 'Interior' and 'Other'.

- On the page Webcam we added a third webcam of the river Scheldt.

- The page downloads has been removed.

- On the Contact-page some FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) were added.

- The page 'River cruise ships in Antwerp' has been integrated in the page 'Photo Albums'.

- - The new page 'News' was added. This page is connected to the Blog. On the page you can find all the news from the cruise ships in Antwerp. You can also easily search in all old news articles. The blog was also given the same design as the website as you can see.

- On the Home Page you can now also click through to a page with all the info about the 'Tall Ships Races' that will return to Antwerp in 2016.

We hope that these changes to the website are an improvement. In the future we will keep on search for ways to improve the website even further.

The Cruise Ships in Antwerp-Team

The World in Antwerpen in 2016

Het cruiseschip The World zal in mei 2016 opnieuw voor een aantal dagen aanmeren aan de Antwerpse cruiseterminal aan het Zuiderterras. De exacte data zijn nog niet bekend.

The World is een heel speciaal cruiseschip omdat het niet gebruikt kan worden door iedereen. Wie een klein fortuin heeft kan zich een studio of zelfs een volledig appartement aanschaffen aan boord. Op die manier kan men rond de wereld varen tijdens de jaarlijkse wereldcruise van het schip.

In 2005 en 2011 lag het schip ook in Antwerpen afgemeerd.

The cruise ship The World will once again dock at the cruise terminal of Antwerp for a few days in May 2016. The exact dates are not known yet.

The World is a very specail cruise ship because it's not possible for everyone to book a cruise on it. For those with a small fortune are able to afford a studio or even a complete apartment onboard. That way you can cruise arround the world during the annual word voyage of the ship.

The ship was also berthed in Antwerp in 2005 and 2011.

Oceania Cruises' Marina & Insignia in Antwerpen 2016

De Amerikaanse luxecruiserederij Oceania Cruises heeft hun vaarprogramma voor 2016/2017 vrijgegeven. Oceania meerde in 2010 voor het eerst aan in Antwerpen met hun 181 meter lange Insignia. Dat schip zal volgend jaar opnieuw naar de Scheldestad komen. Daar bovenop zal ook hun Marina twee keer naar Antwerpen komen. Dat schip zal met zijn lengte van 251 meter net geen nieuw lengterecord vestigen, maar het zal natuurlijk wel één van de grootste schepen zijn die ooit aan de Scheldekaaien gelegen hebben.

The American luxury cruise line Oceania Cruises has announced its deployment schedule for 2016/2017. In 2010 Oceania came for the first time to Antwerp with their 181 metres long Insignia. This ship will once again dock in Antwerp in 2016. Furthermore Oceania Cruises will send their Marina two times to Antwerp. With a length of 251 metres the ship is just one metre short of setting a new length record, but it will of course still be one of the largest ships to ever dock at the Scheldt quays.

Deurganckdoksluis - De grootste Sluis ter Wereld / The largest Lock in the World

Antwerpen - De bouwwerf van de nieuwe Deurganckdoksluis in de Antwerpse Haven was tijdens het weekend van 7 & 8 maart 2015 open voor het grote publiek tijdens het evenement Voeten in de Sluis. De bezoekers konden op die manier een kijkje nemen in het reusachtige bouwwerk voor het onder water gezet wordt.

De Deurganckdoksluis bevindt zich aan het einde van het Deurganckdok op de linker Scheldeoever en zal binnenkort dat dok met de Waaslandhaven verbinden. De Deurganckdoksluis zal de grootste sluis ter wereld worden met een lengte van 500 meter, een breedte van 68 meter en een hoogte van 27 meter. Daardoor zal de sluis gebruikt kunnen worden door de grootste schepen die momenteel rondvaren.

Bovenaan één van de sluiswanden is een 300 meter lang, en 9 meter hoog graffitikunstwerk te vinden. Het ontwerp van het kunstwerk is van de hand van de Belgische kunstenaar Cazn en geeft de verschillende facetten van de gebieden rond de haven weer. Zo kreeg ook de middeleeuwse Doelse kogge, die gevonden werd in het Deurganckdok, een plaats op de schildering. Ook als de sluis volgelopen is met water zal het kunstwerk zichtbaar blijven. Momenteel is men nog volop bezig met het aan te brengen op de wand. Midden maart zou het volledig zichtbaar zijn.

In het voorjaar van 2015 zullen ook de gigantische sluisdeuren vanuit het Chinese Shanghai in Antwerpen aankomen. Elke deur is 70 meter lang, 27 meter hoog en 11 meter dik. 

De Deurganckdoksluis zal in 2016 in gebruiken genomen worden.

Antwerp - During the weekend of March 7th & 8th the construction site of the new Deurganckdoklock was opened for the public during the event Voeten in de Sluis, or Feet in the Lock in English. That way the visitors were able to take a look in the giant construction before the water will flood in.

The Deurganckdoklock is located at the end of the Deurganckdok on the left bank of the river Scheldt and will soon connect the dock with the Waaslandhaven. The Deurganckdoklock will be the largest lock in the world with a length of 500 metres, a width of 68 metres and a hight of 27 metres. That way the largest ships afloat at the moment will be able to enter without a problem.

On the top of the lock wall a 300 metres long, and 9 metres high graffiti painting can be found. The design is made by the Belgian artist Cazn and displays the different facets of the region around the port. The medieval Cog ship, found in the Deurganckdok, also got its place on the artwork. When the lock is flooded the artwork will still be visible. At the moment they are still applying the graffiti painting. Mid-March the painting will be completed.

In Spring 2015 the gigantic lock gates will arrive in Antwerp from Shanghai in China. Each door is 70 metres long, 27 metres high and 11 metres wide.

The Deurganckdoklock will be opened in 2016.
