Amadea & South-Korean Navy in Antwerp 2013

Op 18 september 2013 lag de Amadea van Phoenix Reisen in Antwerpen. Het schip werd in 1991 gebouwd bij de Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Nagasaki in Japan als de Asuka. In 2006 werd het schip verkocht aan Phoenix Reisen. De Amadea is 193 meter lang en kan 624 passagiers vervoeren.

Van 18 tot 20 september lagen er ook twee zeer bijzondere schepen aan Kaai 19. De Zuid-Koreaanse Marine zond 2 van hun schepen naar Antwerpen om België te bedanken voor de deelname in de Koreaanse Oorlog, dit jaar 60 jaar geleden. Het gaat om de 'Hwacheon', een Replenishment Oiler, en de 'Dae Jo-Yeong', een Destroyer.

On the 18th of September 2013 the Amadea from Phoenix Reisen was docked in Antwerp. The ship was built at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries at Nagasaki in Japan as the Asuka. In 2006 the ship was sold to Phoenix Reisen. The Amadea has a length of 193 meters and can accommodate 624 passengers.

From the 18th until the 20th of September two very special ships were docked at Quay 19. The South-Korean Navy sent 2 of their ships to Antwerp to thank Belgium for their participation in the Korean War, this year exactly 60 years ago. The ships are the 'Hwacheon', a Replenishment Oiler, and the 'Dae Jo-Yeong, a Destroyer.

Explorer & Astor in Antwerpen

Op 13 en 14 september 2013 lagen de MS Astor en de MV Explorer samen in Antwerpen. Het studentenschip Explorer lag al in Antwerpen van 10 september. Doordat ze langer in een haven aanmeren krijgen de studenten de mogelijkheid om de stad goed te leren kennen. Voor de Astor was het de maiden call in Antwerpen. Het schip van de Duitse rederij 'Transocean Tours' heeft een lengte van 176 meter en kan tot 650 passagiers vervoeren.

De MV Explorer lag aan Kaai 19 en de Astor lag aan de normale kaai aan de cruiseterminal. Op 14 september vertrokken beide schepen opnieuw uit Antwerpen.

On the 13th and 14th of September 2013 the MS Astor and MV Explorer were docked together in Antwerp. The student ship Explorer already arrived in Antwerp on the 10th of September. Thanks to the long stay the students are able to get to know the city. For the Astor it was its maiden call in Antwerp. The ship is part of the German cruise line ' Transocean Tours' and has a length of 176 meters and can accommodate up to 650 passengers.

The MV Explorer was docked at Quay 19, while the Astor was docked at the usual quay in front of the cruiseterminal. On the 14th of September both ships departed from Antwerp.

National Georgraphic Explorer in Antwerpen 2014

Volgend jaar in mei is in Antwerpen een zeer bijzonder schip te gast. De 'National Geographic Explorer' van 'National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions' vaart een expeditiecruise langs de Nederlandse en Belgische kust waarbij het in België zowel Antwerpen, Gent als Oostende zal aandoen. In Nederland stop het schip in Texel, Harlingen, Den Helder en Amsterdam.

Het is sinds 2001 geleden dat er een schip van National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions in Antwerpen heeft gelegen. Het zal ook de allereerste keer zijn dat de National Geographic Explorer naar onze stad komt.

Het schip staat gepland voor 9 mei 2014.

Next year Antwerp will welcome a very special ship. The 'National Geographic Explorer' from 'National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions' sails an expedition cruise along the Dutch and Belgian coast with stops in Antwerp, Ghent and Ostend. In the Netherlands the ship calls at Texel, Den Helder, Harlingen and Amsterdam.

The  last time National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions visited Antwerp was in 2001. It will be the first time that the National Geographic Explorer visits our city.

The ship is expected on the 9th of May 2014.

Op 8 september lag de Europa van Hapag-Lloyd Cruises opnieuw in Antwerpen.
Dit 5+ sterrenschip is het meest luxueuze cruiseschip ter wereld.

L'Austral 2014 in Antwerpen

Het cruisejacht L'Austral van de Franse rederij Compagnie Du Ponant komt op 7 mei 2014 voor de eerste keer naar Antwerpen. Het is de allereerste keer dat de rederij Antwerpen aandoet.

L'Austral werd gebouwd in 2011 en is 142 meter lang.

The cruise yacht L'Austral from the French cruise line Compagnie Du Ponant will come to Antwerp for the first time on the 7th of May 2014. It will be the very first time that Compagnie Du Ponant comes to Antwerp.

Tall Ship 'Amerigo Vespucci' in Antwerpen

Van 22 tot 26 augustus ligt het Tall Ship 'Amerigo Vespucci' aangemeerd in Antwerpen. Het is sinds 2006 geleden dat het schip nog eens in onze stad lag. Het schip is open voor het publiek op zaterdag 24, en zondag 25 augustus, telkens tussen 15 & 18 uur. Onderaan het artikel kan u enkele interieurfoto's van het schip vinden.

De 'Amerigo Vespucci' werd gebouwd in 1931 in de Marine-Werft Castellammare di Stabia bij Napels. Oorspronkelijk werd het schip gebruikt als schoolschip voor de Italiaanse Marine. Deze functie heeft het schip vandaag de dag nog altijd.

Het schip heeft een lengte van 101 meter en is 15,5 meter breed. De masten reiken tot maarliefst 54 meter hoog. De 26 zeilen van de 'Amerigo Vespucci' hebben een totale oppervlakte van ca. 2600m². De maximale snelheid van het schip onder zeil is 10 knopen. Met haar motor kan de 'Amerigo Vespucci' tot 12 knopen behalen. Het schip heeft plaats voor ca. 450 manschappen.

Aan de boeg van het schip is trouwens een levensgroot beeld te vinden van de naamgever van het schip, namelijk de ontdekkingsreiziger Amerigo Vespucci.

From the 22nd until the 26th of August the Tall Ship 'Amerigo Vespucci' is docked in Antwerp. The last time the ship visited our city was in 2006. The ship is open for the public on Saturday the 24th, and Sunday the 25th of August, daily opened from  3 to 6 p.m. We were onboard this weekend to take a look at this beautiful ship. Below the article you can find some interior photos of the ship.

The 'Amerigo Vespucci' was built in 1931 in the Marine-Werft Castellammare di Stabia near Naples. Originally the ship was built as a school ship for the Italian Navy, and it still is.

The ship has a length of 101 meters and has a beam of 15,5 meters. The masts stretch up to 54 meters high. The 26 sails of the 'Amerigo Vespucci' have a total surface of ca. 2600m². The maximum speed of the ship under sail is 10 knots. With her motor she can sail up to 12 knots. The ship can accommodate ca. 450 crew members.

At the bow a life-size statue of the godfather of the ship, the explorer Amerigo Vespucci, can be found.
