Ocean Princess in Antwerpen 2014

De Ocean Princess lag op 5 juni 2014 aangemeerd in Antwerpen. Het schip voer een cruise langs de Westkust van Afrika om dan via Spanje en de Europese Westkust aan te komen in Dover. De Ocean Princess is met 181 meter één van de kleinste schepen in de vloot van Princess Cruises.

On 5 June 2014 the Ocean Princess was docked in Antwerp. The ship sailed a cruise along the West coast of Africa, Spain and the European West coast and arrived in Dover. With 181 metres the Ocean Princess is one of the smallest ships in the fleet of Princess Cruises.

Maiden Call Seabourn Quest in Antwerpen

Het luxecruiseyacht Seabourn Quest lag op 11 & 12 mei 2014 voor het eerst in Antwerpen. Het was voor het eerst dat de Amerikaanse rederij Seabourn met één van hun grote cruisejachten naar de Scheldestad komt. De vorige jaren mocht Antwerpen al wel de kleinere jachten ontvangen. Die kleinere zijn nu verkocht geworden dus in de toekomst zullen we enkel de grotere nieuwe cruisejachten in Antwerpen te zien krijgen.

De Seabourn Quest heeft een lengte van 198 meter en kan 450 passagiers aan boord nemen.
Het schip werd in 2011 gebouw in Italië.

The luxury cruise yacht Seabourn Quest was docked in Antwerp for the first time op 11 & 12 May 2014. It was the first time that the American cruise line Seabourn visited our city with one of its large cruise yachts. In previous years their smaller cruise yachts could be seen in Antwerp, but now that they have sold those we will only see the larger new ships in Antwerp.

Seabourn Quest has a length of 198 metres and can accommodate 450 passengers.
The ship was built in Italy in 2011.

Maiden Call National Geographic Explorer in Antwerpen

Het Amerikaanse expeditieschip National Geographic Explorer lag op 9 mei 2014 voor de eerste keer in Antwerpen. Het was sinds 2001 geleden dat er nog een schip van National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions in de Scheldestad aangemeerd lag. De National Geographic Explorer bezocht tijdens haar cruise maarliefst drie steden in België; namelijk Antwerpen, Gent en Oostende. Ook in Nederland stopte het schip op vier verschillende plaatsen waaronder op Texel en Harlingen.

Het schip werd oorspronkelijk in 1982 gebouwd voor de Noorse rederij Hurtigruten waarvoor ze gedoopt werd als Midnatsol. Later in haar carrière langs de Noorse Westkust werd ze nog omgedoopt tot Lyngen. Onder deze naam bleef ze varen tot 2007. Daarna werd ze overgekocht door Lindblad Expeditions die het schip dan omgebouwd hebben. Tijdens dat werfbezoek werden enkele balkoncabines toegevoegd. Er werd ook een ducktail toegevoegd aan de achtersteven voor een betere stabiliteit.

On the 9th May 2014 the American expedition ship National Geographic Explorer was docked in Antwerp on her Maiden Call. It was the first ship from National Geographic/Lindblad Expeditions that docked in the city since 2001. The National Geographic Explorer visited not less than three cities within Belgium during het cruise; Antwerp, Ghent and Ostend. In the Netherlands the ship also call at four places including Texel and Harlingen.

Originally the ship was built in 1982 for the Norwegian shipping line Hurtigruten. She was christened as Midnatsol, but later in her career the name was changed to Lyngen. She sailed with this name until 2007 when the ship was sold to Lindblad Expditions. During a dry dock period some balcony cabines were added and she also received a ducktail at the aft for more stability.

Maiden Call L'Austral in Antwerpen

De Franse rederij Compagnie du Ponant lag op 7 mei voor het eerst met een schip in Antwerpen. Het luxecruisejacht L'Austral mocht als eerste onze stad komen ontdekken. Het schip is 142 meter lang waardoor het op plaatsen kan geraken waar de grote cruiseschepen niet kunnen komen, zoals bijvoorbeeld Antarctica. Hiervoor heeft L'Austral, net zoals haar twee identieke zusterschepen  een verstevigde romp. Hiermee kunnen de schepen door ijs varen met een dikte tot 40cm.

Aan boord van L'Austral verblijven 264 passagiers in Franse luxe met een strak maar aangenaam design. Het interieur heeft veel meer weg van dat van een luxejacht dan een doorsnee cruiseschip. We hadden de mogelijkheid eens rond te kijken aan boord. Het resultaat daarvan kan u hieronder bekijken. 

De passagiers kregen vlak voor het vertrek nog een leuke verrassing. Het Duitse cruiseschip MS Deutschland van Peter Deilmann Reederei kwam namelijk vroeger dan verwacht aan in Antwerpen. Toen de schepen zij aan zij voeren groeten ze elkaar met hun scheepshoorn. Terwijl de Deutschland verder voer om zich te draaien aan de Kennedytunnel gooide L'Austral haar trossen los en verliet Antwerpen richting Amsterdam.

On  7 May the French cruise line Compagnie du Ponant docked for the first time in Antwerp with one of their ships. The luxury cruise yacht L'Austral was the first of the fleet to explore the city. The ship has a length of 142 metres, that makes it possible to reach destinations that are impossible to get to with large cruise ships; for example Antarctica. L'Austral was, just like her two identical sister ships built with a strengthened hull. That way they are able to sail trough ice with a thickness up to 40cm.

Onboard L'Austral the 264 passengers can enjoy French luxury with a contemporary design. The interior can best be compared to that of a luxury yacht because it is different from most cruise ships. We got the opportunity to take a look around the ship. The result can be found below.

Just before the departures the passengers got a nice surprise. The German cruise ship MS Deutschland of Peter Deilmann Reederei arrived in Antwerp earlier than expected, resulting in the two ships meeting each other. They both greeted the other with their ship horn. While the Deutschland sailed upstream to turn around, L'Austral cast off her moorings and left Antwerp for Amsterdam.
