Seabourn Pride in Antwerpen

Na 5 jaar afwezigheid meerde op 26 mei opnieuw een cruiseschip van Seabourn aan in Antwerpen: de Seabourn Pride. Dit cruisejacht heeft een lengte van 135 meter en kan 208 passagiers aan boord nemen waarvoor maar liefst 164 bemanningsleden klaar staan. Het schip werd in 1988 gebouwd.

Zeer speciaal is dat het schip zijn cruise eindigt in Antwerpen! Dit wil zeggen dat de passagiers bij de aankomst van boord gaan en dat er dus ook passagiers inschepen in Antwerpen. Dit gebeurd zeer zelden in onze stad. Seabourn heeft laten weten dat ze de intentie hebben dit de komende jaren te herhalen als alles goed verloopt.

Het was de laatste keer dat de Seabourn Pride in Antwerpen heeft gelegen voor Seabourn. In april 2014 verlaat het schip de vloot en gaat ze naar Windstar Cruises waar het schip omgedoopt wordt tot 'Star Pride'.

After 5 years of absence a cruise ship of Seabourn docked again in Antwerp on the 26th of May: the Seabourn Pride. This cruiseyacht has a length of 135 meters and can acommodate 208 passengers who are pampered by 164 crew members. The ship was built in 1988.

What makes the call very special is that the ship ends its cruise in Antwerp! At the arrival the passengers will  leave the ship, but there will also board new passengers. This rarly happens in Antwerp. Seabourn announced that they have the intention to repeat this if everything goes well.

It was the last time that the Seabourn Pride berthed in Antwerp for Seabourn. In April 2014the ship will leave the fleet and be transfered to Windstar Cruises where it will be renamed Star Pride.

EUROPA 2 & EXPLORER in Antwerpen

Op 14 en 15 mei 2013 lagen de EUROPA 2 van Hapag-Lloyd Cruises en de Explorer van Semester At Sea samen in Antwerpen. De twee schepen lagen boeg aan boeg: De Europa 2 lag aan de cruiseterminal, en de Explorer aan kaai 19.

De EUROPA 2 kwam voor de tweede keer dit jaar naar Antwerpen. Het schip vaart zijn Maiden Voyage van Hamburg naar Lissabon. Het schip werd vorige vrijdag, op 10 mei, gedoopt in Hamburg..

De Explorer lag dit jaar voor de eerste keer in Antwerpen. Het studentenschip vaart elk jaar cruises die één semester duren waarop studenten zowel nautische als andere studies kunnen volgen. In totaal kunnen er 75 verschillende studies gevolgd worden!

On the 14th and the 15th of May 2013 the EUROPA 2 from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and the Explorer from Semester At Sea docked together in Antwerp.The two ships pointed bow to bow: the Europa 2 was berthed at the cruiseterminal, as the Explorer docked at quay 19.

The EUROPA 2 arrived in Antwerp for the second time this year. The ship is sailing its Maiden Voyage from Hamburg to Lisbon. Last friday, on the 10th of May, the ship was christened in Hamburg.

The Explorer docked in Antwerp for the first time this year. The student ship sails every year cruises for a duration of one semester. During the cruise the students can choose between 75 different courses!

EUROPA 2 - Maiden Call Antwerpen 5/5/2013

Op zondag 5 mei 2013 lag de EUROPA 2 van Hapag-Lloyd Cruises voor de allereerste keer in Antwerpen. Dit splinternieuwe, ultraluxueuze cruiseschip werd op 26 april afgeleverd door de Franse scheepswerf  STX Europe in St. Nazaire.

De allereerste cruise, of Jungfernfahrt zoals de Duitsers het noemen, voert het schip langs enkele West-Europese bestemmingen, zoals Le Havre, Amsterdam, Texel (Waddeneiland), Antwerpen en Southampton. Het speciale aan deze cruise is dat de EUROPA 2 nog niet eens gedoopt is! Aan boord zijn enkel reisagenten en pers om het nieuwe schip te ontdekken. Op 10 mei wordt het schip gedoopt in Hamburg, Duitsland. Waarna het opnieuw op Jungfernfahrt vertrekt!

De EUROPA 2 is de nieuwe, iets grotere zus van de EUROPA, die al 13 jaar op rij bekroond werd met de titel van "Het Beste Cruiseschip Ter Wereld". De EUROPA 2 is minstens even luxueus maar heeft een ander focuspunt dan haar oudere zus. Het schip is zo ontworpen dat het beter geschikt is voor families met kinderen en toch de verfijndheid van een luxecruise heeft.

Het schip is 225 meter lang en heeft plaats voor 516 gasten. Aan boord zijn enkel Suites met buitenzicht te vinden. De grootste Suite is maar liefst 114 vierkante meter! Bovendien is er geen enkel ander cruiseschip ter wereld waar de ruimte per passagier zo hoog ligt. Verder is er een groot zwembad van 14 meter lang, 7 restaurants, 6 bars, een showlounge en veel meer.

On Sunday the 5th of May 2013 the EUROPA 2 from Hapag-Lloyd Cruises was docked in Antwerp for the very first time. This brand-new, ultra-luxurious cruise ship was delivered by the French shipyard STX Europe in St. Nazaire on the 26th of April.

The Maiden Voyage, or Jungfernfahrt like the Germans call it, makes the ship call at several destinations in Western-Europe, like Le Havre, Amsterdam, Texel (Frisian Island), Antwerp and Southampton. The special thing about this cruise is that the EUROPA 2 is not yet christened! Onboard are only travel agents and press that want to discover the new ship. On the 10th of May the ship will be christened in Hamburg, Germany. Afterwards it will again depart on a Maiden Voyage!

The EUROPA 2 is the new, slightly larger sister of the EUROPA, which has been nominated "The Best Cruise Ship in the World" for 13 years in a row. The EUROPA 2 is at least just as luxurious but has another focus point than her older sister. The ship has been designed to make it more suitable for families with children, but in such a way that it still has the refined elegance of a luxury cruise. 

The ship has a length of 225 metres and can accommodate 516 passengers. Onboard you will only find Suites with outside view. The largest Suite is 114 square metres! Furthermore there is no other ship in the world where there is so much space per passenger. Onboard you can also find a 14-metres-long pool, 7 restaurants, 6 bars, a show lounge and much more.

Marco Polo Scheepsbezoek / Ship Visit

Op 2 april opende de Marco Polo het cruiseseizoen voor 2013 in Antwerpen. Doordat het schip voor reparaties onverwacht in het droogdok moest werd de oorspronkelijke aanloop van 30 maart verschoven naar 2 april.

De Marco Polo lag onder de stralende zon aan het Zuiderterras met honderden mensen die ondanks het koude weer het schip kwamen bekijken. Dankzij een uitnodiging was het mogelijk om ook een kijkje te nemen aan boord van dit prachtige oude schip.

On the 2nd of April the Marco Polo opened the cruise season of 2013 in Antwerp. Due to unpredicted reparations the ship had to go in drydock, therefore the original call on the 30th of March was postponed to the 2nd of April. 

Marco Polo was docked at the Zuiderterras at beautiful sunny weather, wich attracted hundreds of people who wanted to take. Thank to an invitation it was also possible to take a look inside this beautiful old ship.

NL: Dek 6 - ATLANTIC
Op dit dek bevindt zich het hoofdrestaurant van de Marco Polo. In het 'Waldorf Restaurant' kan de helft van het schip tegelijk dineren. Daardoor gebeurd dit in twee delen. Elke dag wordt er door één van de bemanningsleden sculpturen gekerfd uit verschillende meloenen. Deze worden dan mooi uitgestald in het restaurant.

EN: Deck 6 - ATLANTIC
On this deck the main restaurant of the Marco Polo can be found. In the 'Waldorf Restaurant' half of the ship can dine at once. Therefore there is double seating. Everyday one of the crew members carves several melons, turning them into beautiful sculptures that can be found in the restaurant.

NL: Dek 8 - MAGELLAN
Dit is het hoofddek aan boord. Op dit dek bevinden zich de meeste publieke ruimtes. Vooraan het schip kan de 'Marco Polo Lounge', de showlounge, gevonden worden. Hierin worden dagelijks twee shows opgevoerd. Hiernaar kan u gaan kijken voor of na u gaan dineren bent. Als we iets naar achter gaan komen we de 'Captain's Lounge' tegen. In deze lounge kan u gezellig een drankje bestellen en ontspannen. Er is ook een card room voor kaartspelen te spelen, en een bibliotheek voor wie graag leest.

Verder is ook de 'Main Lobby' met de receptie en het 'Tour Office', waar u de uitstappen kan boeken, te vinden. Als we nog verder naar achter gaan komen we de kleine, warm ingerichte, 'Columbus Lounge' tegen. Verder zijn ook nog twee shops te vinden aan boord en kan u rustig genieten van het uitzicht in de 'Palm Garden'. Achteraan het schip is het buffet restaurant 'Marco's Restaurant' waar u zelf u bord kan vullen naar wens. Dit restaurant kijkt ook uit over de achtersteven van het schip waar het zwembad te vinden is. 

EN: Deck 8 - MAGELLAN
This is the main deck onboard. On this deck most of the public spaces are located. In the front of the ship the 'Marco Polo Lounge', the showloung, can be found. Daily two shows are performed. You can see the show before or after you dined. When we back up a little we enter the 'Captain's Lounge'. Here you can relax while you have a drink. Onboard is also a card room and a library for those who love reading.

Furthermore you can find the 'Main Lobby' with the reception and the 'Tour Office', for booking excursions, on this deck. The warm and cozy 'Columbus Lounge' is also located on this deck. Furthermore there are two shops and you can relax and enjoy the view in the 'Palm Garden'. Near the aft of the ship you can find the buffet restaurant 'Marco's Restaurant' wich gives you the opportunity to fill your plate with everything you want. The restaurant also overlooks the aft of the ship with the pool.

NL: Dek 9 - AMUNDSEN
Dit is één van de dekken dat voornamelijk cabines heeft, maar achteraan bevindt zich ook de 'Scott's Bar' waar 's avonds cabaret en nog vele andere acts opgevoerd worden. Op dit dek bevindt zich ook de wandelpromenade aan weerszijden van het schip.

This is one of the cabine decks, but at the aft you can find the 'Scott's Bar' where cabaret and various other acts are performed in the evening. On this deck there is also the walking promenade on both sides of the ship.

Op dit dek bevindt zich het 'Beauty Salon' waar u zich kan laten verwennen. Of u als u uw sportieve kant wil laten bovenkomen kan u zich laten gaan in het 'Jade Welness Center'. Voor wie niet zo sportief aangelegd is is er op dit dek ook nog het internet café te vinden.

On this deck you can find the 'Beauty Center' where you can get yourselve pampered. Or if you want to be sportive you can visit the 'Jade Welness Center'. If you want to keep it calm a visit at the Internet café is also possible.

NL: Dek 11 - NAVIGATOR
Dit is het hoogste dek aan boord. Hier bevinden zich de suites. Achteraan het schip zijn ook nog drie jacuzzi's te vinden. Achteraan dek 9 en 10 heb je ook een prachtig uitzicht op de achtersteven van het schip. Op dit dek was het ook mogelijk om een cabine te bezoeken.

This is the highest deck onboard. Here the suites can be found. At the aft of the ship there are also three jacuzzi's. When you look down from deck 9 and 10 you also have a beautiful view of the aft of the ship. On this deck you

Marco Polo is al een ouder cruiseschip. Het werd gebouwd in 1965, op het einde van het tijdperk van de Ocean Liners. Hoelang het schip nog zal blijven varen is niet zeker, maar het zal  spijtig genoeg niet voor eeuwig zijn.
